Job Summary:
- To provide quality care of the highest standard to all patients.
- To assist the qualified staff to meet the psychological, social, physical, recreational and diversity needs of the patient.
- To ensure that the patients’ security and safety needs are met.
- To work under the direction of the Ward Manager and Registered Nurses.
- To contribute, as an identified associate worker within individual patients care groups under direction of Registered Nurses.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical:
- Give relevant care to patients as prescribed in the patient’s Care Plan.
- Care delivered to include developing therapeutic relationships with the patient, offering support and assisting them in their daily living skills.
- Ensure that patients are cared for in a dignified and respectable manner.
- Consider the safety and security of the patients during care activities and reports. Appropriately acts upon hazards to patientwell-being.
- To facilitate recreational and social activities.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with patients who are distressed or present with aggressive behaviour.
- Ensure that patient is aware of the boundaries of confidentiality. Actively take responsibility as a team member of the care team for individual patient.
- Encourage and support patient to participate in the therapeutic,occupational and recreational activities and act as a role model demonstrated by your participation.
- Take all possible precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of staff, patients and visitors.
- To recordpatient clinical notes (NB: significant events/incidents or conversations relating to the patient and ensure that record is endorsed by a Staff Nurse)
- To observe and report any changes observed in patient condition, (physical, emotional or psychological - to a Staff Nurse or Nurse in charge and record in clinical notes)
- To reports hazards, inadequacies and equipment requiring maintenance to the nurse in charge and report maintenance problems through to the Maintenance Manager.
- To ensure that any incidents or accidents are reported and recorded in accordance with Danshell policy and procedure.
- To ensure that all confidential information about patients, personnel, suppliers is used only in connection with their duties as authorized and ensures that such information is kept secure and out of reach of unauthorized persons.
- To act as an escort to patients, as directed by the Nurse in Charge and to record and report the patient’s interactions, behavior.
- To undertake identified nursing duties under the guidance and supervision of a qualified nurse, e.g. assisting patients maintain appropriate levels of nutrition and hygiene.
- To perform Environmental Risk Assessments of the unit as designated by the Nurse in Charge and report and record any hazards and follow up action taken.
Professional:
- To maintain high professional standards at all times.
- To abide by all Danshell policies and procedures.
Liaison and Communications:
- Is personally responsible to read and be aware of relevant communication circulars, revised policies, procedures and protocols, as made available through the communications system and to disseminate these to MAs and Bank/agency staff.
- Will contribute to shift handovers and relay any relevant care information about young people, identified problems (safety etc.) and any other relevant routine matters that may affect the smooth running of the unit.
Training Development
- Will attend as and when required any statutory and mandatory training.
- Will attend any other training courses provided for performance development within the context of the role.
- To participate in the receipt of Line Management Supervision from Registered Nurses.
Health and Safety
- Have regard for health and safety for yourself and others in the workplace and comply with all safety and statutory regulations;
- Undertake appropriate and timely reporting of any potential or actual Health and Safety issues, breaches in security and apply necessary contingencies.
- Fire regulations - Ensuring that you and your nursing team are familiar with all fire regulations and evacuation procedures, and adhering to these in the event of an emergency.
