How I Plan on Delivering the Lesson
- To explain the information, I will draw three pictures of circles with two secants, two tangents, and a tangent and secant respectively. I will color code each different item (secant as purple versus tangent as orange, for example) as I explain how to identify the type of problem we’re dealing with, and will walk through examples of rearranging equations for our unknown. When working out an example of how to factor with Secant-Secant problems I will show all my steps. I will frequently pause to allow my classmates to write down the example and to ask questions. I will also call on classmates at random to answer a question about the example.
- For the second half of the class my classmates will be in 3 groups of four to make posters illustrating one of the rules and showing an example of how to solve a problem of the type they were given. Each table is given one of the different rules.
How I Will Interact With My Classmates
- Cold-call classmates (call on classmate at random)
- Walk around the room and check in with classmates as they work
What My Classmates Will Do
- Create color-coded posters explaining what they’ve just learned or mastered
How Will You Know Your Classmates Learned Something New or Mastered the Topic?
- I’ll give them five short problems to solve. If their answers correctly match what I’ve got on my answer key I’ll know they learned how to solve these problems.
