Draft: Chair of Medical Informatics

Job Summary:

The Chair of Medical Informatics is the primary organizational lead in providing strategic direction to MPG for complex analytic efforts and measures relevant to the delivery of patient care. The Chair will oversee organizational efforts to align the collection, reporting of Medical Informatics to the appropriate end-users within MPG. The Chair is responsible for establishing the goals , implementation and ongoing data measurement of the Medical Informatics program at MPG in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer of MPG.

The Chair will serve as in-house expert to Senior MPG Leadership in the ongoing development of the Medical Informatics program as dictated by regulation, legislation , policy and procedure. The Medical Informatics program seeks to measure and implement cost effective healthcare processes and also improving the quality of patient care delivered at MPG. The Medical Informatics Chair is also responsible for developing and directing in-house educational programs for staff to ensure that Medical Informatics is utilized properly.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for directing the creation, scoping, planning, prioritizing and managing of Medical Informatics. This includes the interaction with care providers and other support staff across MPG to create meaningful and actionable Medical Informatics data.
  • Serves as internal consultant to various MPG working committees gathering data on patient care related activities at MPG.
  • Oversees the output of Medical Informatics data gathering in areas such as; Provider Practice Patterns, the use of statistical analysis to measure the impact of patient care practices at MPG.
  • Conceive, establish and direct the development of outcome/predictive/analytic studies related to the health status of patients, the effectiveness of the care delivery system. Identify trends and variances and identify in depth cause/effect relationships between patient healthcare outcomes and MPG practice patterns.
  • Create presentations to Medical colleagues, Leadership describing the on-going efforts at Medical Informatics, describing the challenges, the reforms needed and the measurable positive contributions to both cost and quality.
  • Integrate the various data collection systems across MPG and validate the accuracy, timeliness and usefulness of data collected and used in the performance of Medical Informatics .
  • Review, recommend new software programs to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Serve as the external face of MPG in the presentation of Medical Informatics data dissemination as an educational tool.

Position Requirements:

  • Board Certified Physician
  • Training in statistics and/or statistical process control procedures.
  • At least 6 years of demonstrated data analysis with positive outcomes resulting from such analysis.
  • At least three years leading a team of Medical Personnel dedicated to patient care in a group setting.
  • The ability to articulate, both verbally and non-verbally the impact of Medical Informatics on patient care.
  • Skills using Excel programs and other software in order to create meaningful and useful data reports.
  • Strong collaborative and teaching skills and confidence in making public presentations.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of administrative/legislative/regulatory practices in healthcare.
  • Knowledge of health care coding including CPT-4, ICD-9, Revenue codes, etc..
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities, activities, demonstrate calm and confidence.
  • Ability to clearly and convincingly establish the development of the Medical Informatics agenda.
