English Teacher

GENERAL SUMMARY:

St. Mary’s Academy is a private Catholic college-preparatory high school for young women founded by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in 1859. SMA seeks an innovative and collaborative English teacher with teaching experience and a passion for literature. The person hired for this position will teach a full load of English classes; additional duties include a teacher advisory/homeroom and in-house substitution.

A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills, be committed to college preparatory education for young women, and be able to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student population. Candidates should also have experience teaching critical thinking, as well as writing and reading skills. We seek teachers committed to collaboration, reflective teaching practices, and curriculum development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA or MA in English, Literature, orSecondary Education in teaching English; secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Valid Oregon teaching license and relevant endorsements.
  • Be competent in designing and implementing curricula to serve an all-girl student population diverse in culture, religion, and ability
  • Candidates must complete and pass a background check.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, retirement plan, life insurance, holidays, personal day and sick leave.
