JOB DESCRIPTION

POST: Estimator

JOB PURPOSE: This post holder is responsible for the provision of timely and realistic estimates for a wide range of Company projects, including new build, maintenance and refurbishment activities. All of the pricing must be in line with and reflect market conditions and be in full liaison with any professional consultants involved with tender preparation.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Commercial Manager

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESTIMATING

·  To provide realistic estimates for projects

·  To benchmark and ensure the accuracy of base data

·  To liaise with consultants in the tender preparation

·  To provide value engineering alternatives to boost profitability or compliance with clients expectations

·  Log enquiry on tender tracker document

TENDER PROCESS

·  To ensure all subcontract packages are sent out in good time

·  To prepare tender adjudication sheets and attend tender adjudication meetings

·  To check all tender document information is available and of a standard suitable for tendering

·  To prepare tenders based on estimating procedures

·  To communicate estimate information to commercial and operational teams at Project Planning Meeting when tenders are successful

COMMERCIAL AWARENESS

·  To price all work in line with current market conditions

CLIENT FOCUS

·  Liaise with clients and/or their representatives to resolve immediate issues, ensuring their needs are satisfied.

PROCUREMENT

·  Work with project QS to ensure buying gains are maximized at order stage and to ensure appropriate procurement choices are made at contract set up.

·  Attend client and internal progress meetings, site meetings, pre starts etc as necessary.

·  Follow process.

·  A knowledge of estimating and tendering procedures
·  Experience in estimating within the construction industry
·  A knowledge of schedules of rates
Experience (Desirable)
·  A background in maintenance in the social housing and public buildings sectors
·  Knowledge of Sage 200 would be an advantage

·  A suitable and recognised qualification in estimating
