Who am I Essay?
My name is Kevin Garcia Flores and I am a sophomore here at impact. The who am I project was to make a symbol at of shapes that represent thing that make up who we are. The second step was to make a pose that shows what type of person we are. The third step was to paint the pose that we drew on the portrait paper that was the hardest part of the process.
The grid taught me that that if you focus on certain part s of picture and you can make out the shapes then you can be a good artist. Before we started drawing our portrait we learned about an artist named Chuck Close. Close uses the grid in his art so he can make every piece of his art unique in there own way. Using this grid because I am not a good artist but with the grid I can see the individual parts and draw each square. If we did not have to use the grid then I would have free styled it and it would have not looked the same because since I do not draw well then it would have been bigger than they were supposed to be or not in the right spot. Before we started to draw our own portrait we first practice with other people the first person we drew was Michael Jackson when he was a young boy. The second person that I drew was president Obama. I think that my self-portrait was one of the hardest things that I have ever done. It was hard for me because since I don’t have steady hands so I could not make straight lines. From doing this project I learned that you have to try different because if you try different things then you could like some thing better that your original idea.
For this project I used orange purple and green, I chose these colors because orange means energetic without aggression and most people I know say that I am very energetic. I chose purple because some time I am unconscious of what I do until I sit down and really think about it. Finally I chose green for many reasons because I love nature and over the past couple of years I have really changed the way I am as a person and I all so chose it because it means peace and I am usually a calm person. The reason that I chose the pose was because school is a big part of my life and so I have to think hard about what I have to do and make sure that it gets done.
The symbol part of this project was to make a symbol out of shapes about what we love to do and about people who affect us in our lives. My personal symbol describes me physically, educationally, spiritually, and my family. The symbol represents me physically because there are two parallel lines in the middle in a circle which is suppose to mean don’t do it because I don’t like sports at all. It represents me educationally because of the cylinder that is on the outside is suppose to represent science because I do not like science because it doesn’t make sense to me how everything works. It represents me spiritually because of the triangles around the circle represent a cross and I am catholic and god was a very import to me as a child. Finally the symbol represents my family because of the zigzag lines at the top because it shows that my family members are constantly changing their mood which can change how I feel.I made my symbol black and different shades of grey. I chose to keep it simple because I did not want to make it really flashy because that’s not the type of person that and because the rest of my portrait has some light colors so I didn’t want to make it stand out.
I think that my portrait really shows who I am because I can be really fun and energetic but at the same time I can be serious when I want to be or when I need be, this is show through the colors that I used.
