KASA Opens New Center for Education Leadership

(FRANKFORT, Ky.—) The Kentucky Association of School Administrators is announcing the opening of the new Center for Education Leadership, a 501 c(3) organization strategically focused on augmenting the professional growth of Kentucky’s school leaders.

KASA AND The Center for Education Leadership launches September 11, 2014, with an Open House at its new location (87 C. Michael Davenport Blvd. in Frankfort)from 4 to 6 p.m. ET.The new facility is designed to provide a conducive, 21st century learning environment for professional growth, complete with technology-equipped meeting rooms, creative open concept collaboration areas, and on-site video creation facilities.

“This is an exciting time to be a school leader in Kentucky; and on behalf of all of us serving on the board of directors of the state’s first Center for Education Leadership, we look forward to the next phase of our work. As we begin this journey, we commit to guiding the Center for Education Leadership to becomethepremier learning organization for school leaders across the commonwealth,” Center for Education Leadership President Lu Young said.

The Center is governed by a nine-member board of directors made up of school administrators from across the commonwealth. Their first order of business was the selection of Rhonda Caldwell, deputy director of KASA, as their new executive director.

“The world of school leadership is altering with increasing speed and breadth, and today’s school administrators are tackling new challenges like never before. The Center for Education Leadership will give them a lifeline, a place where they can connect instantly, learn optimally, and design progressive models that can be duplicated the nation over,” Caldwell said.

“It is our hope that this organization will become the catalyst driving Kentucky’s schools forward from the ground up. As the executive director, I vow that I will dare to dream, take time to inspire, and make every day’s effort about creating better learning opportunities for Kentucky students from border to border,” Caldwell said.

The board of directors will work to provide targeted programs, pioneering learning tools, and networking opportunities to create the strongest, most qualified school administrators in the country.

Kentucky education leaders serving on the board of directors include:

  1. Lu Young, EdD, Fayette County Schools, representing KASA (President)
  2. Barry Lee, Casey County Schools, representing KASA
  3. Paul Mullins, Garrard County Schools, representing KASA
  4. Wayne Young, representing KASA (secretary/treasurer)
  5. Anthony Strong, Pendleton County Schools, representing school superintendents (KASS)
  6. Martha Lail, Franklin County Schools, representing elementary school principals (KAESP)
  7. Steve Rucker, Spencer County Schools, representing high school principals (KASSP)
  8. Robert Brown, Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (KYEPSB)
  9. Kevin Stull, Kentucky Department of Education (KDE)

The Center for Education Leadership, formerlyknown as the Kentucky Academy of School Executives, led the implementation of the state’s new Professional Growth and Effectiveness System (PGES) for school superintendents, principals and teachers. The Center works in partnership with the Kentucky Department of Education and the Kentucky Association of School Administrators.
