KENT LAW SCHOOL – VISITING SCHOLAR POLICY

Kent Law School welcomes applications from scholars wishing to visit KLS for a period of time(from one week up to one term). Kent Law School’s Visiting Scholars Scheme offers established and early career academics, national and international, the chance to spend a period of time during the UK academic year at the law school, undertaking research and participating in the school’s diverse critical research community.

Applicants should be engaged in a specific research project while at the department. We welcome applicants from any department or discipline, with the sole criterion that the research to be undertaken while at KLS relates to research interests represented within the law school. For information on research undertaken at KLS, please visit:

What we offer Visiting Scholars:

  • Office space (with computer and internet access)

In return we expect Visiting Scholars to be actively involved in the life of KLS, and might typically include (depending on the length of the visit):

  • staff seminar
  • guest lecture to undergraduates in relevant module(s)
  • guest lecture to postgraduates in relevant module(s)
  • reasonable attendance at staff seminar series

Financial assistance

We have a small fund available for financial assistance with travel, accommodation, and/or subsistence, to cover some of the costs incurred in Canterbury. Applicants requesting financial assistance should applyby the end of June in the academic year before your proposed visit.

Funding will be allocated primarily on the basis of the applicant’s project, and its relevance to the broader interests of Kent Law School. We will also favour applicants who have limited access to other sources of funding. Those applying for financial assistance, should make it clear in their application by including a statement explaining why support from the applicant’s own institution for this visit is not available or sufficient.

If you would like to discuss the available options relating to financial assistance in advance of your application, please contact the KLS Research Support Team ().
