Job Summary

I.  To teach theoretical and practical aspects of the Engineering industry to a range of students aged 14 - 19. To follow all procedures and requirements in line with the awarding body.

II.  To follow the Studio’s principles and policies in line with Hartsdown Academy which underpin good practice and raising of standards

General Duties and Responsibilities

·  To undertake all associated planning, delivery and assessment of modern Engineering qualifications as required by the relevant awarding body. This is to include schemes of work, lesson planning, work books, handouts and other relevant documentation

·  To teach all essential underpinning knowledge and assess the relevant practical skills associated with these tasks.

·  To motivate and inspire students in their chosen vocational area and replicate good practices as industry requires.

·  To be involved in interviewing prospective pupils and parents in this and other vocational areas.

·  Registering the attendance of students, keep course records on enrolments, retention, monthly review/tracking progress reports and other associated administration documentation which will be requested by the Director.

·  To prepare and mark assessments, assignment, projects, tests and examinations in accordance with the requirements of the learning programmes and awarding body.

·  To support and act as an internal verifier where necessary and ensure a standardised approach is operated by all members of the team, this includes working with the quality nominee.

·  To carry out workshop and task associated risk assessments for all practical activities for all age groups and implement quality practice, whilst maintaining high standards at all times in line with Health & safety, the Director and awarding body practices.

·  Maintain good order and discipline among the students and ensuring the Health and Safety procedures are followed. Record and report any Health & Safety issues immediately to the relevant members of Hartsdown staff.

·  To act in Lo-Co Parentis to all students, demonstrating good role models and ensuring students are safe and secure. Any issues of safeguarding or concerns are reported to the Child Protection Officer immediately.

·  To support students during break/lunch sessions as required by the Director

·  To provide appropriate advice and guidance along with group individual tutorial roles as required ensuring all learners are on track to successfully complete their course of study.

·  To attend Thanet Skills Studio and Hartsdown meetings along with parents meetings, option evenings and other associated marketing events.

·  To attend staff development programmes as identified through the staff appraisal scheme to update existing knowledge and skills. (Such courses will only be authorised and deemed appropriate by the Director &Hartsdown). This is part of your continuing professional development and part of the requirements of the Institute of Life Long Learning.

·  To take a lead in creating a positive, inclusive ethos that challenges discrimination and promotes equality and diversity.

·  To carry out other duties appropriate to the Skills Studio or Hartsdown as may be requested by the Centre Director.
