Approval of Audit Report

The Audit for the 2015/2016 fiscal year was performed in Homer, February 18, 2017. The auditors were Patrice Krant and Barb Steckel. The secretary presented the Audit report in the absence of committee members. Other than needing backup for the checks written for the use of Christ Lutheran Church, and additional backup requested for one specific transfer between savings accounts, the findings were that the Treasurer’s reports are in good order. Vincent was commended for doing an excellent job.

Officers Reports

President: Vicki Steik

Steik expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to serve as President. This term is much different from the when serving as President at the inception of the Guild. Please feel free ask any questions and the answers will be found for you. Thanked Retreat Chairs for a fabulous retreat. It’s gratifying seeing the original thoughts come to fruition through the years. Steik applied the term “well oiled machine” as appropriate to the current operations of the Guild, and thanked the membership for all their support.

Vice-President/Education:Kathleen Barkley

Barkley outlined details about Cynthia England and what her classes will entail. Next were details about Joan Shay’s class and trunk show. Details about Joan Ford, whose class in in August, were then forthcoming. Questions were answered about the classes. Barkley stated that the Education Committee meeting in February came granted approval to enter into contracts with Gudrun Erla, Maggie Ball, and Jean Ann Wright for 2018 summer schedule. Barkley is in communication with these three and working on the details. At retreat, Barkley was asked about possibly getting Carol Doak or Victoria Finley Wolfe up to teach. Victoria Findlay Wolfe would love to come to Alaska in 2019. No word back from Carol Doak. Barkley thanked everyone for suggestions. There are sign up sheets for England, Shay and Ford, so after the meeting if you’d like to attend, please sign up.

Secretary: Sue Magyar

Magyar pointed out that our Calendar of Events and classes are on the front page of KPGQ.org. Along with Guild related events, there are other points of interest.

Librarian: Dana Lewis

Absent. Steik thanked Dana Lewis for her contributions to the Guild. Lewis came up with the 2017 Retreat Mystery Quilt. Although Lewis has moved away, she’s very much a part of the Guild.

Newsletter: Lois Daubney

Daubney pointed out that the most current newsletter can now be viewed or printed from KPQG.org.

Retreat:

Barkley wanted to thank everyone. It’s not just the Retreat committee, but everyone is responsible for making the retreat a success. Magyar read a thank you letter from Louise Kempker and brought items that were found when cleaning up after retreat. Also, extra t-shirts that were ordered will be distributed after the meeting (between lunch and the demo). Dates for next year’s Retreat are February 16th through 18th. Also, the Executive Board has voted that there will be two scholarships for the 2018 Retreat.

Membership:Cathy Howlett

We have 107 members and will be getting more today.

Hospitality: Sharon Hale

Hale thanked the Central Peninsula members for bringing food. Hale heating dishes and monitoring the clock, so if someone needs anything done with their dish, let Hale know.

Website/Media: Adam Bauer

Absent. Daubney pointed out that there is a menu option to view pictures on the website separate from the Newsletter.

Member-At-Large: Karrie Youngblood

Youngblood mentioned that throughout April the Homer Quilters have a display at Ptarmigan Arts in the Back Room Gallery. This show includes Homer’s challenge blocks. The fundraiser quilt for the museum is entitled “Moosn’ Around”. Tickets are available at the museum and the drawing will be later this spring. Mother’s Day weekend is the quilt show and fund raiser.

Pattern: Grace Lindle

Absent. Steik did say that Grace Lindle has been providing the patterns to the Guild for years, and it’s well worth trying them out. Lindle has been with the Guild since the beginning and does marvelous work.
