Kempshott Junior School

Assemblies / Collective Worship Policy

In accordance with current legislation, the school has a daily act of worship for every child, which is mainly Christian in nature. Parents are reminded in the school Prospectus that they may withdraw their child from all or part of acts of collective worship. The request for this must be in writing, addressed to the Headteacher. Withdrawal of a child from an assembly by a member of staff must have the prior permission of the Headteacher or person in charge of school that day.

Collective Worship is part of the educational provision of this school in that it provides an opportunity to demonstrate and discuss aspects of the school ethos, philosophy and values, as well as convey Christian ideas and messages. For this reason, all staff working with the children are encouraged to attend and share the experiences. Whole school Assemblies taken by school staff follow a pre-determined theme.

Our themes in assemblies allow for, on different occasions:-

i)   a time for reflection

ii) a time for sharing values and morals

iii)   a time for sharing Christian beliefs

iv)   a time for empathy and reverence

v) a time for prayer

vi)   a time for celebrating successes - both personal and school

vii)   a time for welcoming visitors

viii)   a time for inviting visitors to share their expertise and thoughts

ix)   a time for presentations from adults, children and classes

x) a time for celebrate special occasions and events

xi)   a time to develop our sense of community and belonging

Our assemblies take different forms and at present are generally as follows:-
