- Raw content for creating storyboard/script is provided by SCDL. The content is provided on three topics. Students need to select any one topicto create a storyboard/script.
- The students may choose to create either storyboard or a script. Both formats serve the same purpose, and include the same descriptive elements, but vary in their layout and treatment of graphics. Sample storyboard and sample script is provided in Lesson 12: Visualization & Storyboarding (Online as well as Study Notes).
- Storyboards use rough sketches or clip art to visually depict required art elements.
- Scripts use verbal descriptions of on-screen graphical items.
- Creating Storyboard:
- Students are supposed to create the storyboard using PowerPoint application (.ppt file). Naming the file: Students should use their registration number to name the file. For example: 200500002.ppt
- Alternatively they can submit a hand-written storyboard, but they need to follow the format provided in the Study Notes-Annexure B (Page 169). In this format, the page is divided into two parts. In the top portion, they can show the placement of text, graphics, instructional text etc. And in the bottom portion they can write all the instructions meant for the graphic artist and the programmer. Here they can also write additional text or the text that needs to appear on interactions like click, roll-over, drag and drop, etc.
- Creating Script:
- Students are supposed to create the storyboard using MS-Word application (.doc file). Naming the file: Students should use their registration number to name the file. For example: 200500002.doc
- Alternatively they can submit a hand-written script, but they need to follow the format provided in the Study Notes-Annexure A (Page 157).
- The length of the storyboard / script should be around 25 to 30 slides / screens. However 10% variation on either side is permissible.
- Project Submission:
- One softcopy (.ppt or .doc file) of the project is to be send to SCDL at
- Please note that the name of the file should be student’s registration number. For example: 200500002.doc
- Students are required to retain one copy of the project with them.
- The project should contain the Certificate of Originality of the work, the format for which is provided.
GUIDELINES
Few guidelines are suggested here to help you in completing the project. Remember that there is no one way to write a storyboard/script. You can follow any approach that you like as long as you are able to transferknowledge to your end-users in an effective and efficient way.
Select one topic to create the storyboard/script from the following three topics:
- FORECASTING, PLANNING AND DECISION MAKING
- STRESS MANAGEMENT
- BASICS OF FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING
Pre-work:
- Read the topics carefully and select one topic of your choice.
- Again read the contents of the selected topic try to understand and assimilate the content.
- Structure the content and create content outline (Headings, Sub-headings etc.)
- Think of some instructional strategies that you will use like the opening sequence, examples, activities, pictures and graphics, animation, practice exercises etc.
- Plan your storyboard, an example is given here:
Screen No. / Screen Type
1 / Opening screen / Title screen
2 / Introduction / Overview
3 / Objectives
4 / Learning Objective -1 Teaching Screen
5 / Teaching Screen
6 / Practice exercise 1
7 / Learning Objective -2 Teaching Screen
8 / Teaching Screen
9 / Practice exercise 2
10 / Learning Objective -3 Teaching Screen
11 / Teaching Screen
12 / Practice exercise 3
13 / Final Assessment
14 / Summary
Writing the storyboard / script:
The Storyboard/Scripting involves writing the actual content. You may refer to books or web sites to get more information or interesting facts about the content. Use the principles and theories discussed in the CCID course and be creative. Refer to the sample storyboard/script provided in the CCCID course if required.
- Start with a screen that gains attention to motivate learners.
- Present a brief overview of the topic.
- Present objectives. Write the objectives based on Bloom’s Taxonomy.
- Present the content:
- in an interesting manner
- keep the learner involved
- it should be concise, focused and logical
- questions should be thought provoking
- Include meaningful examples, analogies and scenarios if possible
- Describe the graphic/pictures/illustrations/animation that should accompany the text and be present on the screens.
- Describe interactions like click interactions, drag and drop, roll-over text (text that appears when users place their mouse cursor on any picture or text), etc.
- Design test items based in the objectives, provide feedback.
- Include summary
- Include a mastery test in the end.
- Write supporting content like Glossary, Help, Online References, etc.
Post-work:
Once you have completed the storyboard, do a self check. You may check for the following things:
- The content is accurate
- Content is spell checked
