Keeping Baseball Stats

Thank you for volunteering to do the Rock Creek baseball stats now when you are keeping the stats here are a couple of things to keep in mind. There are many different methods of scorekeeping, but it should always be done neatly because it is hard to understand what the stats are when they are done in an unorganized manner. It is also important to be consistent throughout a game. Here are some important things to know when score keeping:

Position NumbersGame Symbols

1- PitcherHR- Homerun

2- Catcher3B- Triple

3- 1st Base2B- Double

4- 2nd Base1B- Single

5- 3rd BaseSAC- Sacrifice

6- ShortstopHP- Hit By Pitch

7- Left FieldBB- Base on Balls

8- Center FieldWP- Wild Pitch

9- Right FieldPB- Passed Ball

E- Error

FC- Fielders Choice

SB- Stolen Base

U- Unassisted Put Out

K- Strikeout

F- Fly out

DP- Double Play

INT- Interference

RBI- Runs batted in

Now when keeping score it is important to know when to use all of these game symbols. When a player gets a hit circle either single, double, triple, or homerun depending on what type or hit they got. Draw a line to where the player hit the ball and as a runner advances through the bases, draw a line to what base they made it to. When they score darken in the area inside the bases. When a player drives in players that are on base record the RBIs in the section labeled RBIs.

While a batter is hitting there are boxes that you keep track of balls and strikes and whenever the batter gets a ball or strike you would put an X in that boxes for either balls or strikes.

Now when a player gets put out there is a box labeled “out#” and in that box you would put what number out they are in that inning. There are many different ways to get out, like striking out in which case you would put a K in the middle of the bases. They could fly out in which case you would put F followed by the position number that they flew out to in the middle of the bases such as (F-8) which is a fly out to center field. They could ground out and this would be shown by putting the position number that they grounded to followed by the position number of the base they were thrown out at such as (6-3) which would be a groundball to the short stop and the runner was thrown out at first base.

When a runner steals a base like from 2nd to 3rd you would write SB in the base paths between 2nd and 3rd. If a player makes and Error like if the shortstop bobbles the ball and a runner gets on base as a result of it you would write E-6 in the middle of the bases.
