Memberships – Jeff Connan

We currently have 207 paid members on the membership list.

I am currently reminding non paid members from last year, who are playing competition at the club, that their membership is overdue by 8 months. These are personal reminders by text & email.

This year we are asking all new & renewing members to do so through the Tennis Australia (TA) web site via the link

Credit card payments may be made while in the web site or

by direct transfer into our bank account,

by cash or cheque direct to a Committee Member.

Members will be asked to register with TA & for each member doing so we will receive $5 from TA. This will more than cancel the credit card fees. Currently we have earned $275 from players logging on & registering with TA. This will be paid to KCTC before June 2017.

Senior Thursday players are to be included in our membership list to ensure insurance cover for everyone.

After 2 terms of Hot Shots, Gary will pay $20 per Hot Shot member as our new Hot Shot member introduction membership.

Maintenance – Clive Pontin

There have been 3 Working Bees since the last meeting on November the 14th, 2016

Sunday, 4th of December. Attended by Clive Pontin, Phil Menadue, Ian and Nathan Galloway, Jo Magnik, David and Robbie Luttrell. Court 4 sign reattached, Bar Fridge Freezer Section Defrosted, Court Maintenance, Whipper snipped surrounds which had a heavy build up of grass, beds weeded near courts 3&4 which were overgrown, X mas decorations.

Emergency Working Bee Saturday the 7th of January, 2017. Called Due to heavy rain scouring court surfaces Attended by Clive Pontin, Kathleen DeZwart, Ruth and Patrick Smith.

Managed to get Courts 1-6 playable by putting new bags of en tout cas on courts and using soil leveller to push toppings where needed. Gary Leech top dressed some courts before this working bee and heavily top dressed courts 7&8 on Tuesday the 10th of January due to being the most scoured.

Scheduled Working Bee , Sunday 29th of January, 2017 Attended by Clive Pontin, Phil Menadue, Peter ………………., (section 2 Tuesday Night Tennis), Ian and Nathan Galloway, Steve Rennick, Gary Leech, Mick Jager.

Lines hammered down which were proud, en tout cas spread and added where needed (especially base line areas), drains cleared, nets adjusted where needed and winders lubricated ready for competition. This working bee was preceded by one carried out by 4 junior player parents who removed a great build up of leaves, mowed grass, trimmed hedges, cleaned windows.

Things requiring attention in the future

Mowing and garden Maintenance are still areas needing further discussion. The Ride on mower is a great unit for keeping the grass down in the area between the sides of court 7 and 3//4. It unfortunately sprays grass at the back of courts 2&3 which end up in the drains. The edges of the paths are an ongoing battle due to the excellent growing conditions. There are a number of solutions which could include using a mower with a grass catcher near the back of the affected courts. Trialling a heavy duty lawn edger. Getting a contractor to do such work is another solution.

One of the net posts on court 2 is badly out of vertical and will eventually need replacing.

New Nets need purchasing as court 4 net falling apart and we usually keep one in reserve.

Discuss hand bag hooks/ court hose concerns.

Build up the level at the side of court 7

Line replacement to continue after new line audit.

Signage around courts re shoes/ watering/ bagging every set./broom location/ bagger location.

Contact fencing and lighting contractors to get quotes for upgrade works. This includes extra reinforcing legs around outside of fence, extending the bottom of access gate between courts 3 & 7 and improved lighting on courts 1-6.

Contact ducted vacuum companies about getting our unit checked, point moved or added to and new hose and head supplied.

Next Working Bee: Sunday March the 26th, 11.00am-1.00pm.
