Kagami Biraki: Each January, our Club has its traditional New Year's Opening Ceremonies (Kagami Biraki). Kagami Biraki is the start to a new year of judo study and training. This year's Kagami Biraki will be on Saturday, January 12, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. We will be having another club tournament, similar in format to our Christmas tournament. Since this tournament is for JCCC Judo Kai members only, there is no registration form for this tournament.
Class Photo: As part of our Kagami Biraki tradition, each year we take a class picture. Previous year’s class pictures are on the Club’s website. All students are invited to be in the photo, including those who are not participating in the club tournament. All students and instructors should be in their white judogi. The photo session will precede the tournament. A single class photo can be purchased for $12. If you would like to order a photo please add your name to the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board before or after any class prior to January 14th.
Dojo Exchange: The next dojo exchange will be on Sunday, February 3rd instead of the original January 28th date.
Class Cancellation: Due to the Judo Ontario Kata Clinic on Jan 27-29th, all classes on Monday, January 28th have been cancelled.
Christmas Tournament/Luncheon: On Saturday December 15th we had our annual Christmas tournament and pot luck lunch. Full tournament results are posted on the bulletin board and our website. Also our lunch was big success with a wide variety of foods and plenty to eat.
Christmas Food Drive: Thank-you to everyone that donated something to our food bank donation. Our large box was delivered to the Japan Social Services after our potluck lunch on December 15th.
Kangeiko (Winter Training): This year’s Kangeiko was the twelfth annual winter training. Congratulations to Darious, Alek, David and Taio for completing the full four days of training. Photos from Kangeiko are posted on the bulletin board and our website.
Judo Ontario Registration: Just a reminder that all students planning in competing in Judo Ontario sanctioned tournaments must be a member of Judo Ontario. Students can renew their membership or sign-up for membership via Judo Ontario’s online registration. Go to the Judo Ontario website (www.judoontario.ca) and click on the Website Registration tab. Registering at the website will allow you to renew your membership or join Judo Ontario. If you are have any questions, please feel free to ask me.
Zoris: All students should wear zoris (slippers) whenever they are not on the mat, before and after class and during breaks. The Club has a number of zoris (slippers) in various sizes. They are available for the low, low price of $5. If you wish to buy your zoris, please see me after any class.
