1st GradeLodi Soccer Program Rules

  1. Six (6) players on the field which includes the goalkeeper for each team.
  2. Opponents must be five (5) yards from the ball for all kick off’s, indirect free kicks, corner kicks and goal kicks. On goal kicks the ball must travel five (5) yards before it can be touched by either team.
  3. No direct free kicks or penalty kicks.
  4. Call intentional tripping, pushing, kicking, slide tackling and out of control physical contact.
  5. Call hand balls unless the child is protecting themselves from the ball hitting them in the chest or head.
  6. A second throw-in is allowed. Player should throw directly overhead and feet can’t leave the ground. If they fail to do this, let them have another chance and instruct all present on the correct way to do a throw-in. Turn the ball over to the other team if the second throw-in isn’t done correctly.
  7. No off sides.
  8. Referee should explain infractions to the offending player and to other players in the area.
  9. Four (4) ten minute periods with a maximum of five (5) minutes between periods.
  10. Alternate kickoffs at the start of each period.
  11. Change ends at half time.
  12. One coach is allowed near the goalkeeper.
  13. Substitutions during play except for injury or disciplinary reasons should be avoided. Substitutions should be done between periods.
  14. Goalkeepers must be changed at the end of each period. A player can be goalkeeper for more than one period, but not for two consecutive periods.
  15. Each player should play a minimum of half (50%) of the total game time. This rule may be waived for disciplinary reasons.
  16. Shin guards are required for practices and games. Players will not be allowed to practice or play without them. Shin guards should be completely covered by socks.
  17. Soccer shoes are allowed but not required. Steel spikes or football type spikes are not allowed.
  18. Player must wear a shirt of the team color to play. Extra clothes for warmth must be worn under the team shirt.
  19. No jewelry may be worn by a player during a game or practice. Medical ID bracelets may be worn but must be taped to the player’s body so as not to pose a hazard to another player. Players shall be asked to remove watches, rings, earrings (including the stud or post variety), hard barrettes, and any other item that the referee deems improper.
  20. Close fitting stocking hats are acceptable. No baseball type hats are allowed during a game or practice.
  21. Abuse of referees in any form and by any person is strictly forbidden. If a disagreement arises over a referees call, do not argue with the referee during the game. Bring the matter to the attention of the referee coordinator after the game.
  22. Coaches are responsible for asking any disruptive or abusive parent or fan to cease the disruptive or abusive behavior or the game will be forfeited.
  23. Players are not allowed to play with a splint or cast of any kind.
