Junior Ready Steady Light

ABOUT…

Background Story…
Junior Ready Steady Light, was initiated just 5 years ago by our Outreach team to raise awareness of careers in the creative industries that are not always considered to be a potential and employable pathway, these include: Lighting Design, Lighting Programming, Video Projection, Production Electrician, Technical Manager and Architectural Lighting to name just a few. The Junior competition was a development of the pre-existing Ready Steady Light, an annual architectural lighting design competition for professional practitioners held at our campus in Sidcup. This first started 11 years ago as a joint venture between the Lighting Design BA Hons Programme and the Society of Light & Lighting recognising the importance of theatricality and fun in architectural lighting. Over the years the event has grown and included further industry partners as well as an array of engineers, designers, manufacturers and architects allowing them to compete using equipment they would never usually have the opportunity to play with. We wanted to give young people a similar experience as part of our ongoing commitment to raising awareness and raising aspirations, with that in mind the junior version mimics that of the professional day in which participants are given access to the same equipment and sites and follow the same protocols. / The Competition
Junior Ready Steady Light, is a one day lighting design competition taking place on 18th March 2017, hosted by Rose Bruford College at our leafy campus in Sidcup. Participants will have a carousel of practical & theoretical mini-lectures lead by industry professionals until dusk when the final competition really begins as each team lights their allocated site! Two prizes are up for grabs the main prize being for Design and the other for Collaboration. Judged by industry professionals, teams compete to win the opportunity to re-light a famous landmark in the UK, last year it was The National Theatre on London’s Southbank. We hope through this event, we can get more people excited about lighting the pathway to their chosen career – excuse the pun!
