Juniata College Cheerleading

Evaluation Information

General information:

All full-time male and female Juniata College students (currently enrolled or accepted to the college) in good academic standing with a desire to show their school spirit are encouraged to submit an evaluation video for the Juniata Cheerleading team. Prior cheerleading experience is strongly recommended; experience in gymnastics, dance, or weightlifting is also helpful. All applicants must read the Juniata College Cheerleading Policy Manual prior to submitting an evaluation video.

All candidates will be asked to demonstrate two cheers and three jumps. Tumbling, while not required, can be demonstrated for bonus points. All tumbling skills demonstrated must be those you would feel comfortable performing on the track, mat, or gym floor as that is where they will be performed during the season. Anyone performing tumbling skills for evaluations may be expected to perform those same skills during practices and games. In addition to technique, candidates will be judged on voice projection, spirit and enthusiasm, crowd-leading ability and attitude.

As a squad, we cheer at ALL home football games and several away games and most home men's/women's basketball games. Competition opportunities may also be available.

FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL SEASON:

Current students, incoming freshmen, students abroad and transfer students will evaluated in two rounds: 1st round video due May 10th and a 2nd round July 1st. All evaluation video criteria can be found below.

In addition to the video, students must complete the Participant Information form listed below. This form may be emailed to Coach Justine Black at .

SEE VIDEO CHECKLIST BELOW. You may send your video website link(YouTube, Vimeo, etc..) via email to Coach Justine. Do NOT email the video file, as they will be too large to receive. Late submissions will NOT be accepted.

The names of persons selected for the Cheerleading Team will be contacted either by phone or e-mail to make them aware of their position on the team. Members should expect to hear results from evaluations by May 20th, and will be informed of their status whether or not they make the team. Members who do not make the team in the spring will be encouraged to work on their skills and submit another video in July.

Video Evaluation Checklist

Please wear solid colored shorts and a white t-shirt or tank top for your video. Your shirt should fit more tightly to your body so that it is not in your way while cheering. Hair should be in a full ponytail and all jewelry must be removed. You are welcome to wear a bow in your hair!

Your video must include the following (may be previously learned; does not need to be original):

1.Introduction – Please begin your video by introducing yourself (Name, Year, Program of Emphasis, Hometown, High School) and telling a little bit about your cheerleading experience. Use this as an opportunity to show your personality!

2.2 Cheers – You must perform two cheers. There is no required length, and it may be one you have learned in high school, all stars, or college. Do NOT use pom-pom’s in your video.

3.3 Jumps – You must perform three different jumps; One must be a toe touch and the other two you may select. Do not duplicate jumps.

4.Tumbling – This is not a required portion, but if you have any tumbling skills, you may demonstrate them for bonus points. You will receive points based on level of difficulty and performance of each skill. Please demonstrate only items you can perform cleanly and safely, and only those you would feel comfortable performing on the track or gym floor.

If you wish, you may also include footage of yourself cheering at games or in competitions and/or footage of you stunting. This does not count at all toward your score but will help me get a general picture of your cheerleading ability.
