Summer Swim Lessons Registration Form

A Note to Parents: Please remember that these lessons progress from basic skills to stroke refinement. ALL the levels are important for increased water safety. Also, it can take a few times to get through a level; this is normal. Like any new skill, it takes lots of practice to get good, and there is much to learn in each level. Open Swim Hours provide an opportunity to practice these skills in greater detail, either as fun family time, or by sending children over age 7 on their own. Additionally, see for more information. Students must have completed grade Kindergarten by the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

Level 100

BEGINNERS: This is the place to start. Learn to surface swim on your front and back. Children will utilize a buoyancy device in order to gain confidence in the water, and will wean from this support as they advance. Includes skills: First-time submersion, Breath holding, Front & back kicking, Paddle stroke, Underwater swim with a “Pop-up-breath.”

Level 200

SWIM--PREREQUISITE: Comfortably swim 15 feet without the aid of a floatation device, face in the water and breathing as needed.

In this level, learn to swim Freestyle (with side breathing) and the Backstroke. Includes skills: Kicking with kickboard, Back kicking, Stream- line kicking, Backstroke, Freestyle.

Level 300

ADVANCED SWIM STROKES--PREREQUISITE: Swim 25 feet of Front Crawl (with side breathing).

In this level, learn the Breaststroke and Butterfly. Includes skills: Refine the Freestyle and Backstroke, Whip kick, Breaststroke arm pattern, Breaststroke timing, Butterfly kick, Butterfly arms, Butterfly timing. Note: Breaststroke is a necessary skill for Lifeguarding courses.

Level 400

LIFESAVING STROKES--PREREQUISITE:Swim 25 feet of Front Crawl (with side breathing).

In this level, learn to swim Sidestroke and Elementary Backstroke. Includes skills: Scissors kick, Sidestroke arms, kick and timing, Backstroke kick, arms and timing, Treading kicks, Sculling arms for treading, Treading.
