Independent Government Agency which advises the State, through the Ministry of Mining, in the implementation of public policies related to Geology and Mining, ensuring the rules compliance in safety and sustainability of mining, ground use, geological hazards and resources, through research, training, technical assistance and inspections.

Joined in 2011, to modernize the organization, update and enhance requirements in safety inspections programs to the industry, implement the new Mining Closure Law and lead the National Program of Geological Mapping and the Volcanic Surveillance Network, whose successful accomplishments were recognized by the Industry, Authorities and Mining Associations.

  • Following Copiapó 33 miners’ Accident, led successful transformation of Sernageomin, repositioning its role, as a "nearer Sernageomin", more proactive in safety and sustainability and integrated with other government entities.

  • Due Diligence Leadership for the acquisition of the EBB Southern Cone Region and Trane de Chilecompanies by The Trane Co. After the acquisition, I was in charge of leading the companies’ Merger Project and responsible for the reorganization process in the A & F area in the new company in Chile and Peru, resulting in:

* Successful execution of the merger and the new company reorganization, developing the company’s support areas (Accounting, Planning, Finance, Purchasing and Logistics, Human Resources and IT), implementation of a new accounting system, administrative procedures (Sarbanes-Oxley) and the design and implementation of managerial reporting to Headquarters in the U.S., applied in Chile & Peru.

* Design of a new credit policy and renegotiation of customer past due loans, which allowed an extraordinary recovery of US$378 K, improving cash flow and transfers to Headquarters.

  • Design and implementation of the Business Strategy focused on “Solutions” sales, which allowed:

* 28% sales increase over the prior year and 10% above plan and successful development of the new Solutions Business Line in Chile, negotiating and obtaining a contract of US$971 K, the first most important contract in the region.

* Development of a Customer Oriented Sales Team to retain and increase Trane’s share of the HVAC investment on customers and successful implementation of the “Full Service” concept in Chile.

* Development of a Safety Program which enabledus to train and focus the employeeson safety, reduce the lost time accident rate by60% in two years and lowerinsurance rates to the legal minimum.

* Successful negotiation of theLaborUnion Agreement, obtaining flexibility in manpower costs and incentives oriented towardsachieving objectives.

  • Development and execution of marketing strategies to introduce the “Comprehensive Solutions” concept in HVAC and control engineering to the industry (Mining, Power Co-Generation) and retail segments in the Southern Cone Region.

  • Introduction of the Franchising concept in Chile. Design and development of policies, contracts, operations manuals and training, resulting in the first 5 S/S and Star Marts franchised,with additional revenues of US$400 K.
  • Memberof the multinational team that developed and led the execution of the programs, procedures and training of Country Managers, field managers and sales personnel to improve/expand the Texaco brand in Latin America.

Joined in 1978. In 1985 took on the development and introduction of the convenience stores (Automarket) concept in Chile, which produced deep changes in the Chilean fuel retail industry such as the size and design of service stations (S/S), and the supply and marketing system. Also, Automarket inspired new marketing tools, cross promotions, convenience product selection and a faster customer attention. The success of Automarket, led to creation of a new company, Servacar, with independent Esso company management and administration. In 1986, I was appointed Servacar General Manager. Other achievements were:

  • Creation of the brand "Automarket", layout development, product and equipment selection, creation of a variety of fast food (new to Chile) and development of a single supplier for the store's products.
  • Design concept and organization of Servacar,and implementation of standards, manuals, accounting system, procedures and management control, to operate a chain of 35 S/S and Automarkets, 800 employees and annual sales of $ 20 M.
  • Due to the success in Chile, I led the introduction of convenience stores in Guatemala, Brazil and Puerto Rico, and establishedthe brand "Automarket" for all Spanish-speaking countries in the region.
