Child Protection Program

RATIONALE:

“Every child should be kept safe.” A reason why the Department of Education is implementing the following programs, to wit;

  1. Child – friendly school
  2. No to Drugs Education Program
  3. Anti – bullying program

Hence, Juan L. Gantuangco School of Arts and Trades is doing its best to protect the students from any harm.

ACTIVITIES TO BE UNDERTAKEN:

  1. Integrate Child Protection and NDEP in all subject areas;
  2. Review of the Child Protection Bullying Policies by the members of the committee on Child Protection;
  3. Conduct lectures/symposia which aimed to heightened public awareness as preventive measures against common street crime activities, especially syndicated crime that victimize school children;
  4. Conduct responsible parenting retreat to parents and students; and
  5. Conduct training of trainers on Life Skills Enhancement.

Prefect of Discipline

CHILD PROTECTION AND ANTI-BULLYING POLICIES:

Purpose

Juan L. Gantuangco School of Arts and Trades aims to create a learning environment that is safe, equitable and harassment – free. Hence, helps in increasing students’ attendance and participation, minimizes drop – out.

Definition

Based on the “Anti – Bullying Act of 2012”, Bullying shall refer to any severe or repeated use by one or more students of a written, verbal or electronic expression, or physical act or gesture, or any combination thereof, directed at another student that has the effect of actually causing or placing the latter in reasonable fear of physical or emotional harm or damage to his property; creating a hostile environment at school for the other student; infringing on the rights of the other student at school; or materially and substantially disrupting the education process or the orderly operation of a school; such as, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Any unwanted physical contact between the bully and the victim like punching, pushing, shoving, kicking, slapping, tickling, headlocks, inflicting school pranks, teasing, fighting and use of available objects as weapons;
  1. Any act that causes damage to a victim’s psyche and/or emotional well – being;
  1. Any slanderous statement or accusation that causes the victim undue emotional distress like directing foul language or profanity at the target, name – calling, tormenting and commenting negatively on victim’s looks, clothes and body; and
  1. Cyber – bullying or any bullying done through the use of technology or any electronic means.

Intervention To Address Bullying

Responsibilities of Juan L. Gantuangco School of Arts and Trades Administration and Civilian Volunteers Organization

All teachers and Civilian Volunteers Organization (CVO) who witness incidents of bullying must:

  1. intervene immediately in a manner that is appropriate to the context and ensures the safety of all people involved;
  2. report the incident of bullying to the Principal/Prefect of Discipline/Guidance Counselor as soon as possible by completing the JLGSAT Form for Reporting Bullying (Attachment A).
  3. cooperate fully in any investigation of the incident.

Responsibilities of Students, Parents and Guardians

Students who are witnesses to the bullying act should not stand by or participate in the bullying, but must notify the teachers/ Civilian Volunteers Organization (CVO) / adult at home as soon as possible.

Parent/Guardian who are witnesses or is notified of bullying has an obligation to report to the principal/Prefect of Discipline/Guidance Counselor by completing the JLGSAT Form for Reporting Bullying (Attachment A).

Investigation

  1. The Principal/Prefect of Discipline/Guidance Counselor will perform the investigation.
  2. Investigation of the bullying incident shall be initiated within five (5) school days of receipt of a report and completed within ten (10) school days, unless the Principal grants in writing an additional 5 – day extension due to some unavoidable circumstances. The Principal/Prefect of Discipline/Guidance Counselor shall document the extension in the investigation report and shall notify the parties involved.

Notification

On the same day the Form for Reporting Bullying is submitted, the Principal/Prefect of Discipline/Guidance Counselor shall inform the parent/guardian of all involved students. After the investigation, the parents of all involved students should be called for the imposition of the consequence, hence resolves the case.

Imposing Consequences

Imposition of consequences will be based on the result of the investigation as long as it is in conformity with the Department of Education Rules and Policies.
