HOW TO JOIN A NEW COURSE AS A PREVIOUS MYCOMPLAB USER

If you used MyCompLab in a previous semester, the process by which you will join this semester’s course is somewhat different from the process followed by a new user.

If you want to have access to the writing you did in a past course, for example in 1301, you should transfer your documents (see Step 1). Then follow the instructions under Step 2: Join a New Course to join your ENGLISH 1302 course. You can then upload your documents to your new course if you wish. If you don’t want to save any documents from your past course, go on to Step 2.

STEP 1: Save and Transfer Documents

To have access to your documents from a past course, for example, ENGLISH 1301, you will need to save them to your computer or a flash drive.

Option 1: This is the quickest option and recommended if you are primarily interested in saving documents to your computer rather than uploading them to your new course.

1. Log in and select the course that houses the documents you want to save (for example, ENGLISH 1301).

2. Click the Composing tab.

3. Click the Files menu.

4. Click Open Document and select the Assignment Document you wish to save as a personal document.

5. From the Choose an Action drop down menu, choose Open a Copy.

6. Click on the Files menu and then click on Save.

7. Repeat for all assignment documents you wish to save.

Option 2: Use this option if you plan to upload multiple documents from this course to your new course.

1. Log in and select the course that houses the documents you want to save (for example, ENGLISH 1301).

2. Click the Composing tab.

3. Click the Files menu.

4. Click Open Document and select the Assignment Document you wish to convert to a Personal Document.

5. From the Choose an Action drop down menu, choose Open.

6. Click the Export button (or choose Export from the Files menu) and select the desired format.

7. Save the file to a folder on your computer.

8. Repeat for all assignment documents.

STEP 2: Join a New Course

1. Log into your existing course, for example ENGLISH 1301.

2. Click on Settings.

3. Select Join a Different Course.

4. Select Join Your Instructor’s Course.

5. Enter the Course ID for the new course.

6. Select your course.

7. Click Click Here to Start Working.

NOTE! If you used Option 2 in STEP 1, you can upload your exported documents. Go to Composing and select Upload Document from the Files menu.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR ASSIGNMENTS AND WRITING:

1. Click the To Do tab at the top of your screen.

2. Click All, and select My Assignments to view Due and Completed assignments.

a. Click My Documents to view a list of your documents.

b. Click My Recommendations and Favorites to review suggested resources.

c. Click the Calendar tab to view your assignments by due date.

3. Click an assignment title to view the assignment's details, including with specific instructions from your instructor. Then click Begin Working/Resume Working to begin or continue working on that assignment.
