I also have experience in Unix and strong Sybase application experience. I have light experience in Oracle and DB2. I have some light exposure to powerscribe, Biscom and Openlink as well. Recently I have become Network + certified.
Work experience / Jan 2006-Present CHE(Catholic Health East)
Systems Analyst
  • Took part in an upgrade to Siemens Radiology V27 at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, NJ. Successfully project led and tested the upload of IDX results into the Siemens radiology system. This included 15 years of data.
  • Project leading a phase of this project to convert IDX mammography procedures into the Siemens Radiology system at St. Francis hospital.
  • Worked on Pacs upgrades at various CHE sites.
  • Worked with the customer on issues with Powerscribe and the associated interfaces to Radiology.
  • Created and modified various reports in the Siemens Radiology system, these reports are built using a query language with Sybase as the underlying dbms.
  • Created Sybase queries to help support the Mercy hospitals as well as the Lourdes Medical Center and St. Francis hospital.
  • Performed various testing and trouble shooting tasks involving data passing between the HIS system(Invision primarily) and the Radiology system as well as interfaces between other modalities.
  • Worked closely with customers during the St. Francis upgrade; this included education for users and doctors as to how to use the system properly.
  • Worked with Siemens to create solutions to stop interfaces from abending for when users entered invalid information.
1989 – Jan, 2006 Siemens (formerly Shared Medical Systems) Malvern, PA
Senior Programmer/Analyst
  • Worked in a Siemens Radiology Support position for over three years. This project gave me experience and knowledge in Unix and Sybase and more direct interaction with our Healthcare customers using a Radiology application. Versions supported included v23, v24, v25, v26 and v27.
  • Worked on a project for 2 1/2 years that included project leading and programming for an application to move data using object-oriented programming with C++, Visual Basic and SQL Server stored procedures. Most of my programming on this project was with VBA/Excel, Visual Basic and C++.
  • Created VBA code within Excel spreadsheets to populate and bulk-copy data into SQL Server tables.
  • Created Visual Basic code to load data into SQL Server databases.
  • Worked with customers to create custom SQL scripts and solutions for the current product offering.
  • Created a SQL Server 7.0 application database (SDMF) tool that is used as a wrap-around to SQL Server 7.0. It creates Maintenance Plans, Jobs and Alerts that are used to ensure database recoverability and database peak efficiency at client sites. This tool was designed in the case that a hospital does not have a DBA. The tool makes things run much more smoothly for the hospitals. I also modified this tooll to work for SQL Server 2000 as well, with or without instance names. This project required me to write an extensive amount of stored procedures that made use of many system stored procedures and system tables.
  • Created a 50 page document explaining the installation and use of the SDMF database and the associated Maintenance Plans, Jobs and Alerts.
  • Worked with our education groups to have them teach about different databases for some of the different projects; this included education on how to install the SDMF.
  • Led a project to test applications after their associated databases were upgraded from 6.5 to 7.0. I also helped resolve minor issues that came up with this conversion.
  • Worked with development groups on code reviews of stored procedures to improve their efficiency. I also worked with other groups on tuning queries and adding the appropriate indexes.
  • Led a project to determine the best way for my group to use version control type utilities to store our model database code. This also involved working on innovations to install these databases easily.
  • Took the lead in my group of learning the most efficient ways to code 6.5 stored procedures for SQL Server 7.0. I also took the lead in re-working the necessary code and wrap around code for SQL Server 2000.
  • Designed and created a Lotus Notes database for the database administration group. Within that database I included a form that groups fill out when they want a new database environment created. If they fill out the fields in the form and obtain the appropriate sign-off from different development groups, an efficient SMS model type system can be created fairly quickly and accurately.
  • Designed, developed, programmed and implemented an Archive Imaging System using COBOL II, DB/2, embedded SQL, and DMS. The system tracks and stores all software produced by SMS before it is delivered to Clients. This system required gathering programming specifications, writing complex DB/2 queries and establishing new DB/2 tables.
