Jointly Hosted Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week Event

on November 17 Will Begin Pass the Flame Campaign

and Highlight Hunger and Homelessness Issues

Several area human service agencies that serve the hungry and homeless are combining forces on a Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 10-18) event at The Hospitality Center located at 3959 Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur on Saturday, November 17 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. The event is an informational session designed to solicit media support to convey a message of challenge to the Golden Triangle community to assist these agencies in recommitting themselves to addressing hunger and homelessness in our community.

The event will open a movement called the Pass the Flame campaign which will seek to enlist support from individuals, as well as governmental, business and religious sectors of the community in the battle against hunger and homelessness. The inauguration of this campaign to renew the community’s commitment to addressing these social issues coincides with the 25th anniversary of The Hospitality Center.

Due to the limited size of the venue, the event is conceived principally as a press event, but will also include select Board members of the collaborating agencies, local government officials, pastors and business executives among the invited guests.

Agencies which have already pledged to join forces to announce and inaugurate the Pass the Flame campaign are:

The event will include visuals conducive to press coverage, including a presentation of fresh produce grown by The Giving Field for organizations feeding the hungry, the signing of a letter of support for the Pass the Flame campaign by attendees and the passing of candlelight among attendees to symbolize the Pass the Flame campaign.

Attached is the agenda for the event and the letter of support which will be signed. A press packet with some statistical material about hunger and homelessness will be distributed at the event and agency officials could be interviewed after the ceremony.
