3. Accommodation

Help and information can be provided to find accommodation solutions in Paris, with a night rate of about 40€ to 75€ (incl. breakfast). Accommodation can also be self-organized by the student (e.g.: flat sharing).

Students should count on approximately 100€ per day for accommodation, lunch, dinner and transportation.

4. Registration fees

Course fees: 700€ per student which includes the French language course, the course materials as well as the cultural tour and coffee breaks on training days. Course fees do not include food, accommodation nor travel to Paris before the programme. Transfer by bus from CCIP French Language Center to HEC Campus at the end of the program will be arranged by HEC. If your application is successful, you will receive a registration form including payment form and procedure. Payment is possible through bank transfer or credit card.

5. Insurance

Please contact your insurance company to get all requested information about the procedure to follow should you need medical care in France. Make sure your insurance cover medical care during your stay in France.

6. Notice

This application form must be completed with information on current level in French and a writing sample. Upon successful application, students will receive via email a registration and payment form as well as further information about programme location and accommodation (if requested). The program organizers shall not be liable for cancellation or interruption of the program arising out of events or incidents that are beyond their control. The program organizers’ liability is limited to the refund of the registration fee.

In order to assess your current level of French writing, we need a writing sample from you.

Please find herewith the two topics to be addressed.

Do not use any dictionary or automatic correction device, as the aim of this exercise is to get an accurate idea of your current level in French.

Topic 1: «Autoportrait»

Please write in French only a text including

o  A self-portrait: introducing yourself, describing your personal interests and hobbies, your educational background and professional experience and future projects…;

o  Issues of personal significance relevant to the upcoming French class (personal language background and expectations concerning the French class).

Write narrative and descriptive sentences, using a variety of daily-life vocabulary and grammatical structures.

Suggested length (+/- 250 words).

Express in French only your personal position on the following subject:

«Is it really necessary to understand the language and culture of countries where one conducts business?»

o  Provide a statement with one or two convincing arguments, taking into consideration the opposing opinion.

Self-assessment grid (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR)

Entry-level requirements: Beginner, A1, A2 or B1 level for written and oral skills in general French.

Oral comprehension (listening)

o Beginner: (no previous knowledge in French) / o A1: I can recognise familiar words and very basic phrases concerning myself, my family and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly. / o A2: I can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment). I can catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements. / o B1: I can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. I can understand the main point of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs or topics of personal or professional interest when the delivery is relatively slow and clear. / o B2: I can understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. (Production) I can use simple phrases and sentences to describe where I live and people I know. / o A2: (Interaction) I can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. I can handle very short social exchanges, even though I can’t usually understand enough to keep the conversation going myself.
(Production) I can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms my family and other people, living conditions, my educational background and my present or most recent job. / o B1: (Interaction) I can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
