GEORGIA REGIONAL SCIENCE BOWL
Welcome to the Georgia Regional Science Bowl. We hope to see your team competing in this year’s competition.
The GA Science Bowl runs a little different than at other regional sites. We have two days of competition – general the end of January/beginning of February and the end of February. The first round is called the sub-regional science bowl and is held at four universities throughout the state – Armstrong Atlantic State University, Kennesaw State University, University of Georgia, and Valdosta State University. Teams will be placed at one of these sites with every attempt to place high schools at the closest site possible. Up to three teams per high school may compete with a minimum of four team members per team.
The top teams are then invited to compete in the Georgia Regional Science Bowl held in Savannah at the end of February. Only ONE team per high school is invited to the Regional Science Bowl. The number of invited teams per sub-regional site is based on the number of teams competing at that site and the total number of teams competing within the state.
The Georgia Regional Science Bowl consists of 12 teams, divided into two groups of 6. The divisions will play in a round-robin. The top two teams in each region will compete in a double elimination tournament to determine the winner of the Georgia Regional Science Bowl. This team will then travel to Washington DC to compete in the DOE National Science Bowl.
