JOINING CPSA – Enquiry Fact Sheet

Thank you for your enquiry about your group joining CPSA as a Branch. CPSA was founded in 1931 in response to pension cuts. CPSA is a non-profit, non-party political membership association which serves pensioners of all ages, superannuants and low-income retirees. CPSA has approximately 142Branches and Affiliates with a combined membership of over 32,000 people living in all parts of NSW. All CPSA (including branch) activities are covered by our $10 million Public Liability Insurance (PLI) policy. CPSA produces apublication, THE VOICE of Pensioners and Superannuants of NSW(11 issues per annum). Membership is open to all who support the Aims & Objectives of the Association.

There are several ways that you can join your group with CPSA. The most popular is to become a CPSABranch. This ensures that your group is covered by our $10m PLI policy. The cost of membership of CPSA is $12 per member, $1.20 of which is kept by the branch, the rest of which is sent on to CPSAHead Office. A minimum of 10 members is required to start a CPSABranch. A copy of each issue of THE VOICE is sent to each Branch for each Member of the Branch.

If your group (no matter how many Members) does not want to become a Branch of CPSA, you may choose to become an Affiliate organisation of CPSA. Affiliate organisations pay a total of $50 per year and are entitled to representation at the Annual Conference and, where applicable, twoObservers to their local Area Council. Affiliate organisations receive 5 copies of each issue of THE VOICE. Affiliates are NOT covered by CPSA’s PLI.

Our vision is a fair deal for pensioners of all ages, superannuants and low-income retirees within a fair and just society – in which pensioners and low-income retirees have adequate living standards and equitable access to the services they need, in which their rights, needs, concerns and aspirations are respected, and in which they have a say in the decisions that affect their lives. CPSA has a vested interest in increasing its membership: an increased membership equates to a greater voice for our Members and constituents. Please find enclosed a copy of our Constitution (in particular you need to read the section about Branches) and an application form to join CPSA.
