Play stars is funded by the Queensland Government and provides all Queensland families, with a child under one, 12 months free membership to Playgroup Queensland. To become a Play Star, simply register with Playgroup Queensland before your child’s first birthday.
Play is the easiest way you can help your child learn and grow.
The first three years of your child’s life are crucial for their development, and you are their first and most important teacher.
Playgroups provide a relaxed and friendly environment where you can your child can play and enjoy fun activities together while also making new friends.
What is a playgroup?
A playgroup is an informal session where babies and young children, and families or caregivers regularly meet in a relaxed environment. They are usually held once a week in community venues such as a hall, school or a park. Playgroup Queensland playgroups are run by participating families or volunteers.
Whether you are a mum, dad, carer, grandparent or family member, everyone is welcome at playgroup.
Why playgroups are good for children
Playgroups are fun. Your child will join in different play activities suitable for their age including singing, dancing, art and craft.
At playgroup, your child will enjoy stories and music, socialise with other children and adults, explore the world around them through play, try out new imaginative and creative activities, and have fun. Playgroups can also help young children start developing skills they need for school, like learning to share, taking turns and making friends.
Why playgroups are good for parents
Playgroups can give you and your child some time for one-on-one play away from home and everyday distractions. At playgroup you can enjoy new activities outside of the home, meet new people and make new friends, share ideas and experiences, play with your child, learn from other parents, watch your child learn and develop new skills while having fun, learn more about your community, and connect with local services.
