JOB DESCRIPTION – ADMINISTRATOR

Re-Union Canal Boats Ltd

Re-Union Canal Boats Ltd is aninnovativesocial enterprise operatingboats in Edinburgh and Falkirk and delivering training programmes on and around the Union Canal. We offera commercial and professional boat hire service which generates income to subsidise our training programmes and community activity. We work with volunteers from all walks of life to help us meet our social aims and objectives. More information on Re-Union is available at Re-Union is at an exciting stage of development, creating new training programmes, developing activity in Falkirk and exploring new canal related ideas.

The organisation now needs an experienced administrator to manage the finance, bookings, trip co-ordination and general office functions to keep Re-Union on track during this period of expansion.

Conditions of Service:

  • Full time – Permanent
  • Salary£17,000 - £20,000 depending on experience
  • 3 months probationary period
  • 25holidays per annum plus 13 public holidays
  • Responsible to Re-Union General Manager
  • Based atRe-Union Canal Centre, 1 Union Path, Edinburgh EH3 9QB

Responsibilities of the Role will include:

  • Take overall responsibility for managing Re-Union’s account procedures to ensure

accurate records of project financial activities and financial reports are available for the Board

  • Co-ordinate and schedule bookings and crew and skippers for boat hires and events
  • Provide admin supportto the Re-Union staff team supporting them to fulfill their roles
  • Provide reports to the Board and funders when required and support funding applications

where applicable

  • Play a part in ensuring that Re-Union offers excellent customer service
  • Work to ensure that Re-Union is providing the best possible experience for all its volunteers,

in conjunction with the Volunteer Development Workers

  • Promote Re-Union through networking and liaison with all relevant bodies, organisations and agencies

Experience –
Knowledge and experience of good practice in office administration
Understanding of social enterprise / Prior experience in helping an organisation to become sustainable
Work experience within a social enterprise
Work skills –
Excellent organisational skills
Managing workload to meet targets and deadlines
Sound working knowledge of computer packaged office systems
Experience of financial management Experience of computer based finance programmes (Sage or others)
Booking systems and scheduling
Co-ordination of staff for events / Knowledge of on-line accounts packages (Xero or others)
Knowledge of funding packages and reporting procedures
Customer service
Knowledge of canals and boating
Knowledge of canal and/or community projects
Driving licence
