I.OPENING OF THE MEETING

A.Call Meeting to Order

The regular meeting of the Kings County Behavioral Health Advisory Board was called to order by the Chairperson at 12:04pm.

B. Introductions

There was a brief introduction of Board members, staff, and guests.

II.UNSCHEDULED APPEARANCES

  • The Rock the Purple event for domestic violence awareness will take place on Monday, October 23rd from 12-2:00pm @ the Hanford Civic Auditorium.
  • The Recovery Fest will take place on September 30th from 9am-1pm @ Lacey Park.
  • The CA Assn. of Local Mental Health Boards will be offering Mental Health Board Training on October 21st.

III.CHAIRMAN UPDATES

Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the regular meeting on August 28, 2017 were presented to the Board for approval. Debbie made a motion to accept these minutes and Ken seconded.All were in favor.

October, November, December Board Meetings

Ken made a motion to cancel the October board meeting in order to support those wanting to attend the Rock the Purple domestic violence luncheon taking place at the same time as this board meeting as well as the December board meeting, which lands on the Christmas holiday. Robert seconded the motion. All were in favor.

IV.KINGS VIEW UPDATE

Collaborative Documentation

Eric Douglass, Program Manager of Adult Services at Kings View, discussed the use of Collaborative Documentation, what led to its use at Kings View and what staff and clients are saying about its use.

V.MENTAL HEALTH/SUD/BH UPDATES

Patients Rights Advocacy Update

Katie Resendez, Patients Rights Advocate, discussed the calls she has received and followed up on in the last month.

Kings County Data Notebook

Katie Arnst, Behavioral Health Program Manager, discussed the CA Mental Health Planning Council’s state mandates that require data from each county. Cris Hernandez from Behavioral Health will be needing volunteers for a workgroup to work on this data. Diane Freeman from the County Counsel’s office advised that this groups participants needs to stay below 50% of board membership.

Suicide Prevention Task Force (SPTF) Updates

Sander Curtis Valyocsik, Evaluator from the Kings/Tulare County SPTF, presented statistical information in relation to suicides in Kings County for 2014-2015.

VI.OAK WELLNESS CENTER UPDATE

No report this month.

VII.KINGS COUNTY COMMUNITY UPDATES

Champions will be having their graduation on 10/19/17 and registration is not required for those who would like to attend.
