Course description:
The course aims to provide midwife students the essentials pharmacology, with the emphasis on the application of the nursing process, drug actions, uses, routs of administration, dosages, adverse reactions, contraindications, midwifery implications, and women and family teaching about specific drug classifications especially those drugs what will be used during the time of pregnancy and labor. Antidotes of some commonly known risky drugs and drugs reactions are going to be tackled during the course period.
Course objectives:
On completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Familiarize midwifery students on various drugs used in pregnancy,
labour, and post labour, and with various risky conditions influence
pregnant mothers.
· Accurately perform mathematical calculations when they are necessary
to compete drug dosages.
· Demonstrate awareness of various nursing responsibilities pre, during
and after drug administration and the effect of mediation on fetal.
· Apply the nursing process to drug administration.
· Express knowledge of various significant drugs in regard to
classifications, routs, doses, and adverse effects.
· Follow proper nursing implications when administering medications
to patients.
· Offer the necessary teaching about drug therapy for both clients and
their families.
· Recognize contraindication drug during pregnancy, lactation
