Job Vacancy: Community and Sports Events Fundraiser
Reporting to:Head of Fundraising and Communications
Weekly hours:Ideally full-time, but part-time would be considered for the right candidate, as would occasional home-working

Momentum children, and their families, across Surrey and SW London who are faced with the diagnosis of cancer or another life-limiting condition. We offer practical and emotional support through our family support programme; provide holidays, trips and treats to help during the stress of treatment; and implement projects within our partner hospitals across Surrey to help enhance the healing environment. Momentum was founded in 2004 and the charity has an office in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey. At any one time, we support over 150 families whose child is seriously ill, and another 80 bereaved families.
We are looking for a new Sports Events and Community Fundraiser to join our vibrant and friendly fundraising team. You will be working alongside another Individual and Community Fundraiser, and have regular interaction with all the members of the Momentum team across both fundraising and family support.
The main objectives of the role are to deliver a diverse annual calendar of community initiatives and sporting events for Momentum, working in our local catchment area,whilst also supporting individual fundraisers who wish to raise money through their own community or sports events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up, develop, plan and implement a range of challenge and sporting events, and other community activities, in conjunction with the Head of Fundraising and Communications in line with budget and the overall Business Plan and Fundraising and Communications Strategy
- Manage event income and expenditure budgets to ensure that targets are met, providing regular reports
- Develop a marketing strategy and implement plans for specific events
- Monitor our own-places plans and keep abreast of new events we should buy places in
- Monitor local community events and make applications for Momentum to benefit as appropriate
- Be responsible for the design, print and distribution of promotional materials relating to each event.
- Provide exceptional supporter care:
-Developing relationships with participants, individuals and organisations to maximise fundraising and ensure long term charity involvement.
-Motivate and inspire participants with regular phone calls and emails
-Send out fundraising materials as required, with the support of the Office Administrator
-Monitor supporter’s activity by monitoring Justgiving and VirginMoney
-Keeping individual participant database records up to date with communications
-Publicise and maximise Gift Aid at all opportunities
-Develop plans to recruit new charity supporters and event participants
- Ensure that all events adhere to the law and that adequate health and safety measures are in place.
- Encourage individuals to publicise their fundraising efforts with local media, connecting them with the PR Officer as necessary
- Attend community and sports events acting as a charity ambassador and give presentations, speeches,collect cheques and so on
- Monitor levels of merchandise (T-shirts, collection boxes, stickers, caps) and fundraising materials (posters, fundraising packs, sponsorship forms), re-ordering and replenishing stocks as necessary
- Ensure timely thank you letters and acknowledgements are sent to all fundraisers
- Assist the Financial Controller with the accurate recording of donations
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Minimum of 1-2 year's fundraising experience in a similar role within the charity sector
- Demonstrable experience of supporter care
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Strong IT and database skills
- Energy, enthusiasm and fantastic with people
- Able to work on your own, and as part of a team
- Empathy forMomentum's cause and the families we support
OTHER INFORMATION
Due to the nature of the role, there may be occasional evening and weekends that you will be required to work- for example, to attend a community event or to manage one of our sporting challenges. Time off in lieu will be granted.
Whilst not essential, it would be helpful to be a car-owner and driver with a clean, driving licence as we would expect regular visits out and about within our local community. Expenses would be covered.
