OVERVIEW:
‘Wellbeing’ is part of the £3m Big Lottery funded ‘Ageless Thanet’ project (part of the national Ageing Better campaign). The project is a partnership of voluntary, statutory and private sector organisation that have come together to improve physical and mental wellbeing and reduce loneliness and social isolation in older people.
We want to change people’s perceptions of ageing, and show people that growing old is positive and to be embraced. We want Thanet’s older people to make their voices heard and will help them to achieve this, working together, in partnership, cross-sector and with the community. Ageless Thanet’s aim is to make Thanet a great place to grow old.
JOB SUMMARY:
To manage the Ageless Thanet ‘Wellbeing’ programme in Thanet, with the aim of identifying, developing and delivering a varied and diverse programme of opportunities available to Thanet residents age 50 and over. To be responsible for meeting the objectives and funding criteria of the Big Lottery funded Ageless Thanet project and Service Level Agreement with Social Enterprise Kent.
To engage a number of providers to participate in the ‘Your Life – Live it Better’ Wellbeing programme and to run a range of activities (cultural, physical and artistic) to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of vulnerable older people in Thanet. To attract 5000 participants with 70% feeling our community-based wellbeing activities have improved their health and reduced feelings of loneliness by the end of the project.
To integrate the wellbeing programme with other Your Leisure community projects and the other workstreams within the Ageless Thanet project to complement the programme and enhance the delivery of our charitable objectives.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. To develop positive relationships with key stakeholders from the voluntary, community and statutory sector, including a range of partners, to effectively deliver the Wellbeing workstream. In doing so to maximise access opportunities and broaden the diversity of activities available.
2. To co-ordinate, attend and administer stakeholder meetings to assist in the ongoing development and review of the Wellbeing programme.
3. To introduce a range of opportunities initially under the following themes:
Ø Physical Exercise – Neighbourhood Toning Suite
Ø Art & Culture – Culture Club
Ø Hobbies & Dreams – Hobby House
4. To develop consultation and participation processes with older people, their families and wider stakeholders to ensure the wellbeing programme is designed and delivered based around need. To positively develop community engagement.
5. To deliver activities in accordance with current legislation including health and safety requirements and in accordance with Your Leisure’s policies and procedures.
6. Ensure all activities have signed off risk assessments and where external providers are used a copy of their insurance and risk assessment is obtained and filed.
7. To maintain effective systems for monitoring evaluating and reporting the work of the project, measure how the team perform in for example reducing isolation/ loneliness, and increased confidence, self-esteem and well-being. To continuously review performance by ensuring completion of monitoring and evaluation forms and obtaining customer feedback to measure satisfaction.
8. To establish and manage a volunteer support group to assist with activities as appropriate.
9. To manage the recruitment, training and supervision of the Community Organisers in accordance with Your Leisure’s policies and performance management procedures. Ensuring all support staff complete induction and safeguarding training within six months.
10. Where required, to provide training and introduction for new customers ensuring information is stored on database.
11. To ensure all safeguarding concerns are recorded, reported on and filed in line with Your Leisure Policy and procedures and to supervise others to achieve high safeguarding standards and to implement and update agreed safe policy and best practice ensuring all customers, especially vulnerable adults are protected.
12. To actively seek other funding to support the delivery of wellbeing activities and provide longer term sustainability to the Ageless Thanet project. To keep stakeholders involved and offer corporate partners volunteer opportunities.
13. To build and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally while promoting the work of the project and Your Leisure.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
EDUCATION, QUALFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
· A good level of general education with a supervisory or management qualification
OCCUPATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
· A recognised qualification and/or experience in working with older people
· An understanding of the issues affecting members of the community aged 50 and over
· Proven experience / methods of working and communicating with older people to promote participation and involvement
· An understanding of the relevant services and agencies working with older people
· An understanding of safe practices and health and safety issues.
· Experience in developing new projects and of partnership working in a multi-stakeholder environment
· Experience of managing and supporting staff/volunteers
SKILLS ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:
· Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
· Networking skills
· Collaborative working skills
· IT skills in word processing and e-mail (Microsoft Office applications).
· Facilitation and presentations skills including the ability to produce publicity materials.
· Ability to collate, present and report information in appropriate format for the intended audience.
· An ability to monitor, record and evaluate the work of the project
