JOB PURPOSE

  1. To provide medical and welfare services for boarding students and be first point of contact for first aid and medical matters within the school and maintain the appropriate records and care plans.
  2. To work with SLT to operate systems to manage and improve attendance and punctuality
  3. To be responsible for monitoring, tracking and reporting on whole school attendance, persistent absence and punctuality
  4. To make unsupervised contact with families in their home setting to establish the reasons for non-attendance of individual students and work with families to facilitate a return to school

MAIN DUTIES

WELFARE

  1. To provide medical and welfare care for boarding students including GP registration and other registrations and escort students to optician and dental appointment.
  2. Monitor prescribed medication for boarders.
  3. To provide first aid and initial medical support to all pupils, remain up to date on first aid and paediatric first aid training and coordinate the register of first aiders.
  4. To lead on provision of first aid and ensure the relevant staff are trained and access refresher training as appropriate
  5. To record all accidents at school using the appropriate systems and contact parents as appropriate.
  6. To liaise with parents/carers and produce and maintain pupil’s medical records, allergies etc with resulting up to date care plans
  7. Arrange school immunisations
  8. Support Teachers and Teaching Assistants with internal exclusions and behaviour incidents.

ATTENDANCE

To be responsible for ensuring registers are completed accurately and that there are no unexplained absences, or missing marks

  1. To be responsible for ensuring that communications to parents/carers about absent students are sent in a timely and efficient manner
  1. To be the main point of contact for parents/carers about attendance and punctuality, receiving and making calls on a daily basis
  1. To check attendance registers/reports to identify patterns in attendance and punctuality data, and to draw from this a priority list of home visits
  1. To support SLT by regularly monitoring attendance across all year groups and all key target groups, including sixth form, and to identify students who require support with their attendance
  1. To raise attendance issues with parents and to arrange meetings as appropriate with students and parents, in order to support them improve their attendance
  1. To liaise with parents/carers and visit family homes to discuss attendance, and to set up and implement action plans to facilitate a return to full-time education
  1. To liaise with other professionals and external agencies to address issues around truancy and issues that may affect attendance such as drug or alcohol misuse, bullying, youth offending etc.
  1. To monitor and issue staged letters to parents/carers with regard to persistent absence
  1. To highlight to SLT where a student’s absence has reached a threshold which may require legal action
  1. To collate data and to produce regular reports (weekly, termly and ad-hoc) on attendance for SLT, and the Academy Council.
  1. To contribute to whole Academy attendance strategies and systems which promote social inclusion, engagement and educational achievement and to engage in projects to promote attendance of individuals and/or groups of students

  • To participate in performance appraisal and to undertake performance appraisal for direct reports.
  • To ensure that all safeguarding policies and procedures are strictly adhered to

  • To maintain high standards of professionalism in every facet of the role, including conduct, dress code, and communications.
