Job Description

Job Title: Ways into Work Co-ordinator (21 hours per week)

Responsible to:The Steps to Settlement Coordinator

Place of Work: 28 Bath Road, Slough

Purpose of Post:To run an effective employment, training and mentoring resource for asylum seekers and refugees at SRS;

To link up with local employers and training providers to enhance access for asylum seekers and refugees.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To run an effective employment, training and mentoring resource by:
  2. ensuring the smooth running and development of SRS Job Club and Ways Into Work project
  3. developing and co-ordinating the service to SRS clients in relation to employment and training issues
  4. recruiting, supporting and supervising volunteer mentors
  5. working closely with volunteers, including attending volunteer meetings as appropriate
  1. To enhance the access to employment and training opportunities by:
  • jointly co-ordinating training projects with local training providers
  • developing partnerships with local employers and arranging work experience placements
  • developing links with local voluntary groups organisations
  1. To support individual asylum seekers and refugees on their path to training and employment by:
  • assisting with job search, application forms, college enrolment, CV writing and further advice and guidance
  • developing clients’ IT skills to enable them to job search online and through social media
  • developing and maintaining a support structure for each client (for example through volunteer advisers attached to the SRS Job Club) and tracking the progress of each client
  • maintaining an up to date website for job seeking clients and employers
  • co-ordinating Ways into Work activities
  1. To ensure that this service is an integral part of SRS’ work by:
  • giving a brief, written report to each meeting of the board of Trustees
  • providing quarterly monitoring reports of SRS Job Club progress and activities and clients’ progress, and participation in SRS’ annual review
  • reviewing progress and joint working with the full SRS staff team, on a routine basis, in relation to the organisation’s annual plan and targets
  • being a member of the Steps into Settlement Sub Committee
  • forming links withlocal forums to raise awareness of the employment challenges faced by refugees
  1. To undertake other tasks which from time to time may be reasonably required by the Trustees

Person Specification

Job title:Ways into Work Coordinator (21 hours)

The following skills and qualities are essential for this post holder and may have been gained in either paid or unpaid situations

  1. A knowledge and understanding of the needs and challenges facing refugees and asylum seekers in the UK
  1. Experience in advice/guidance/personnel/human resources/employment/training or related experience
  1. The ability to self manage and take initiative
  1. Project management experience
  1. Ability to listen to and empower others to make decisions
  1. Ability to work in partnership with volunteers
  1. Willingness to work collaboratively and enthusiastically with colleagues
  1. An appreciation of the importance of valuing diversity and ensuring equality in the workplace and in dealing with refugees
  1. Computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, internet, websites, social media
  1. A good standard of literacy, numeracy and communication skills (at least GCSE equivalent)
