Job Title Volunteer training and recruitment worker

Hours 16 hours weekly (To include some evenings and weekends). Increasing to 37 hours weekly in Year 2 of project

Remuneration £19, 621 (Pro-rata)

Accountable to Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind CEO

Responsible to Head of Services Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind, as part of the Senior Management Team

Base General Office. Scarborough. Training delivered throughout Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale region

Background

Under the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind’s (SWR Mind) team are responsible for the provision of high quality services for people with mental health problems to the highest quality standards and in accordance with SWR Mind policies and procedures.

As an integral part of our Side by Side team, the volunteer trainer will be responsible for delivering all training to potential and existing volunteers, participating in the development of the training programme and working alongside the Side by Side team to improve and deliver volunteer recruitment procedures/campaigns.

Purpose of role

o  To deliver multi-media, dynamic, high quality training to volunteers, ensuring their preparation for supporting people with mental health problems in the community in accordance with SWR Mind’s values, ethos and recovery focused approach

o  To share responsibility in developing and implementing a volunteer recruitment strategy. Assisting the Side by Side team in organising, marketing and delivering recruitment events

Main duties:

o  Preparing for and delivering training sessions using a variety of methods and meeting a range of learning styles

o  Ensuring completion of evaluation forms and producing post training evaluation reports

o  To respond to continuous training evaluation and design training updates to meet changing requirements

o  To create and maintain learning materials to high standard of accessibility to support the ongoing development of volunteers e.g. handouts, multi media presentations

o  To comply with administration procedures relating to volunteer applications, training and qualification

o  Liaising with local media to promote volunteer training

o  Promoting volunteer training via SWR Mind website and social media outlets

o  Liaising with project support workers regarding trainee volunteer skills, interests, issues and performance at training events

o  Developing/writing new training modules as needed

o  Organising and participating in volunteer recruitment events, thank you events and taster sessions

o  Adhering to SWR Mind appropriate policies and procedures

Person specification:

Essential / Desirable
Knowledge / Knowledge of mental health problems and their effects
Knowledge of the impact of stigma and discrimination and their impact on the lives of people with mental health problems
Full, clean driving license and access to a vehicle / Sound knowledge of mental health services in Scarborough and how they work
Understanding of the principles of
person centred support and recovery for people with mental health problems
Skills and
abilities / A qualification relevant to learning and development
Good written and verbal communication skills
Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
Excellent presentation, facilitation and training delivery skills
Pro-active, self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
Ability to work as part of a team
Computer literate / Risk assessment and risk management
Event organisation
Experience / At least 2 years working with vulnerable people
At least 2 years working with people with mental health problems
Experience of delivering training to groups with a range of support needs / Close personal experience of mental health problems
