Context
Riseholme College is the University of Lincoln’s specialist college delivering Further and Higher Education for the Food and Land-based sector at two campuses, Food Manufacturing at the Holbeach Campus and Land-based from Riseholme Campus.
The Animal Unit at Riseholme is a key resource for students studying programmes in Animal Care and Animal Behaviour and Welfare at Further and Higher Education Level. The unit houses a substantial collection of animals including a number of rare and exotic species.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that animals are fed and cared for to a high standard and that the Unit Manager is informed of any issues arising which are likely to impact on the safe and efficient operation of the Unit.
The post provides weekend/ bank holiday cover and the post holder will normally be required to work one weekend in four on a rota system as well as being asked to provide cover for staff holidays.
Job Purpose
To undertake the feeding and general care of animals and to ensure that the Unit Manager is informed of any significant issues relating to the safe and efficient operation of the unit including any health issues which may arise regarding the animals.
Key Responsibilities
To maintain housing and feed animals as instructed by the Unit Manager.
Maintain a log for the purpose of informing other staff of current operational progress and specific issues.
Communicate with the Unit Manager to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Unit at all times.
Communicate with other staff, students andstakeholders.
Work as part of a team, attending team meetings with other team members on the rota as requested
To participate in appropriate staff review methods and in service training, based on assessment of individual and service needs.
To carry out such other duties as may be appropriate to the post and the work of the University such as unit and resource maintenance and administration.
