Job Title:Student Transition and Retention Co-ordinator

Responsible To:Assistant Manager Student Services

Job Purpose: To coordinate activities to support effective transition to College,and intervention strategies to support the retention and attainment of students at risk of leaving.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. To work with the Assistant ManagerStudent Services to ensure that all aspects of student support is addressed effectively.
  1. To co-ordinate school liaison activities to ensure the effective transition of students to College.
  1. Tocoordinate and maintain the appropriate intervention and referral strategiesfor those students who are identified as at risk of leaving.
  1. To participate in the work undertaken to track attendance, retention, attainment and progression of students;
  1. To work closely with academic staff to develop prevention and early intervention strategies and activities to increase retention.
  1. To undertake an assessment of need to effectively signpost the student to the most appropriate form of support required.
  1. To liaise with schools, staff, parents, carers, guardians and external and internal support agencies to ensure that student’s needs are met.
  1. To provide appropriate support and guidance for staff and students to prevent withdrawals.
  1. To facilitate and maintain an effective referral and signposting process across NPTC Group for students who require support.
  1. To facilitate advocacy for students when appropriate.
  1. To provide a flexible and innovative approach to the support for students.
  1. To take a lead in the development and maintenance of specialist support

Groups.

  1. To develop additional activities to promote retention and attainment.
  1. To work with Careers Wales to ensure that students unable to remain on programme have an appropriate exit strategy.
