Purpose of the role

A positive experience when visiting a university is one of the most important conversion activities for potential students. Open Days and Applicant Days are, therefore, key tools used to attract prospective students to the University of Brighton. The Student Recruitment Events team are involved withthe planning and organisation of on-campus recruitment events to assist the University to meet its recruitment targets.

Main areas of responsibility:

The role is primarily responsible for:

  • Organisation and delivery of recruitment events that provide opportunities for prospective students and their families to visit the university (both pre and post application);
  • Coordinating the participation of academic schools and central departments in visits and open days and liaising with the Student Recruitment Events Officer in relation to appropriate activities and content;
  • To establish effective and clear on-line booking processes to ensure a smooth experience for potential visitors and to assist with tracking visitors through to application/enrolment;
  • To support the development and delivery ofbooking systems and communications with visitors using the University’s customer relationship management (CRM) system;
  • Liaising with colleagues in Marketing & Communications to ensure that appropriate publicity is generated for the schedule of events;
  • Coordinating a range of practical inputs for open days to ensure appropriate technical, environmental and catering support;
  • Undertaking risk assessments and evaluating procedures for promotional activities in accordance with the University’s Health and Safety guidelines;
  • Coordinating, deploying and supervising all staff assisting at an event, solving difficult situations and problems that may arise;
  • Delivering presentations during open days and other visits covering pre-entry information, such as student finance and university accommodation options;
  • Monitoring events and producing reports which analyse feedback from participants to make recommendations for further development;
  • Monitoring events organised by other HEIs and provide advice on best practice and the enhancement of current activities.

  • Physical: Able to undertake all the physical requirements of the job, including lifting, carrying and setting-up of exhibition and presentation equipment, according to health and safety guidelines;
  • Able to work unsocial hours/out of office hours:
Open days are traditionally held on Saturdays or Sundays, but there may also be a requirement to work some evenings; The post holder will be expected to work between 15 – 20 weekend dates throughout the year, for which time off in lieu will be granted;
  • Transport: driving licence required; the role involves regular travel to a variety of external sites within reasonable timescales and transport materials for activities.

  • Experience of coordinating/supervising the work of colleagues;

  • Ideally, given the frequency of inter-site and county-wide travel involved in the role, if you are a car owner or are a member of a car club, you will be prepared to use it/the car club for university business (all expenses related to university business will be reimbursed); however, other arrangements will be made if/when this is not possible.

  • Any appointment is generally made at the bottom of the salary range for the grade dependent upon experience and previous salary.
  • This is a full time post and is fixed term until 04/11/2018.
  • Annual leave entitlements are shown in the table below and increase after 5 years’ service. In addition, to the eight Bank Holidays, there are university discretionary days between Christmas and New Year. All leave, including bank holidays and discretionary days, is pro-rated for part time employees.
