THE SEARCH FOR THE BEST NSM ACTIVITY AND

BEST NSM REGION FOR 2011

I.Background

To recognize outstanding participation in the NSM celebration, the 22nd NSM will be giving an award for the Best NSM Activity and Best NSM Region. The NSM awards system serves as incentive to participating individual and collective agencies in the observance of the NSM. The awards system is a way of encouraging wider participation to the NSM celebration and designed to promote the conduct of activities that will further the objectives and spirit of the NSM celebration.

II.Awards to be Given

There are two major awards to be given, the Best NSM Activity and the Best NSM Region.

The Best NSM Activity will have 4 categories and awards shall be given to each of the categories namely:

Best Statistical Fora

Best Statistical Exhibit

Best Statistical Contest

Best Radio/TV Plug

To aid the judging of the Best NSM Activity, per category, the following definition of terms shall be used:

Statistical Fora - activities in the form of workshops, symposia, trainings, and lectures

Statistical Information Dissemination Activities- information dissemination activities through various media. It may be in the form of exhibits, web-based dissemination, database systems, information caravan, publications, primers, flyers, and bulletins.

Statistical Contests- activities in the form of statistical quiz, oratorical contests, essay contests, poster-making contests where participants compete for an award. The competition may be aired through radio or tv programs.

Radio/TV Plugs - advertisements, announcements, broadcasts, plugs, tv reporting, interviews aired through radio or television featuring discussion on statistical issues, and/or announcements on the NSM celebration among others.

III.Criteria for Judging

  1. The criteria for judging the Best NSM Activity is as follows:

a)Relevance (25%)

The thematic focus of the NSM activity will be given priority. The nominated activity must clearly articulate this year’s theme “Quality Social Protection Statistics for Focused Targeting:
Improving Outcomes, Changing Lives” or “Kalidad na Estadistika sa Pangangalagang Panlipunan: Pagpapahusay ng Gawa, Pagpapaunlad ng Buhay” and likewise address emerging issues in the region or the country.

b)Overall Presentation of the Activity (25%)

The activity must have clear logical organization and structure, must effectively communicate the idea being presented, the data presented must be factually correct and accurate, must demonstrate educational effectiveness, and the ideas and messages of the work are clear to the audience. The number of proposed and actual participants will be evaluated. Range or extent of participation will likewise be evaluated.

c) Impact (25%)

The activity must show presence of feedback mechanism, the audience reached and its effects, the experience gained out of the activity and the lessons learned. New programs and activities will be given priorities. Activities will be evaluated in terms of originality.

d)Economy of resources (25%)

The activity must show ingenuity and resourcefulness as well as cost-efficient presentation. Resources that will be used in executing the proposed activity vis-à-vis the relevance and impact of the activity to the NSM objectives will be evaluated.

2.The criteria for judging the Best NSM Region** is as follows:

a)Diversity of activities will be given consideration (25%)

b)Extent of participation of cooperating agencies and LGUs (25%)

c)Conveys favorable image of the region (25%)

d)Economy and ingenious use of resources (25%)

**- Nominations from the local level should be made part of the integrated submission of the region for the NSM Best Region.

IV.Mechanics

Nominations for the Best NSM Activity and Best NSM Region should be submitted to the NSM Secretariat either through mail/courier or e-mail. submission of entries through fax will not be entertained to ensure the clarity of entries. The nominations must be accompanied by the required documentation.

The following information should be provided along with the nomination form for Best NSM Activity:

  1. Objectives of the activity
  2. Description of the activity
  3. Perceived relevance of the activity to the theme.
  4. Description of a feedback mechanism/perceived effect of the activity to its target audience
  5. Description of materials/resources used
  6. Reasons for nominating
  7. Other information useful in the evaluation

An agency can nominate its own activities but limited to three activities per agency.

Nominated activities will be categorized into 4 categories namely, (1) Statistical Fora, (2) Statistical Exhibits, (3) Statistical Contests, and (4) Radio/TV Plugs.

The Awards Committee shall evaluate the nominations received vis-a-vis the criteria.

Only activities submitted to the NSM Secretariat as NSM activity may be nominated.

Announcement of winners and awarding will be on the opening ceremonies of the 23rd NSM on October 2012.

Kindly submit your nomination for Best NSM Activity or Best NSM Region using the attached nomination form including a complete documentation of the activities starting March 1, 2012 to June 29, 2012. Entries that will be submitted beyond the deadline will not be reviewed anymore by the Awards Committee.
