Job title: Sessional Fitness Tutor

Reporting to: Mental Health Coordinator

Aim

  • Deliver a range of fitness programmes to homeless and vulnerable people in order to encourage life long learning.

Circumstances

  • A satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required for this role.
  • This is a part time role (2 – 8 hours per week)
  • The tutor must hold relevant coaching certificates to be able to deliver a range of fitness programs including Yoga or Pilates.

Salary

  • £22.58 for delivery and supervision
  • £11.29 for training or other meetings.

Principle Accountabilities

  1. Recruitment and assessment
  • Recruit and select learners on the basis of need
  • Undertake an induction and weekly training programmes.
  • Give feedback on progress and make links with external sports agencies.
  1. Teaching and learning support
  • Coach in accordance with best practice for the client group
  • Plan, reflect and review each learner’s progress on a regular basis
  • Prepare and use suitable and good quality sports materials.
  • Write suitable risk assessments for the class.
  • Prepare learning documentation in accordance with standard Crisis practice
  • Establish and maintain standards of conduct with and for the learners
  • Adhere to departmental policies when dealing with aggressive or challenging behaviour
  • Ensure all learning activity aids the progression of individuals and future development plans drawn up
  • Certification and quality assurance
  • Assess the learners’ progress and attainment against the standards set for the programme
  • Make and keep appropriate assessment records
  • Maintain and provide required records for accountability purposes
  • Fulfil accreditation requirements if necessary

Person Specification

Essential

  1. Hold relevant qualifications in teaching Yoga/Pilates as well as having relevant experience in teaching a range of fitness classes.
  2. Delivering fitness programmes and working with minimal support with challenging behaviour and clients with complex needs.
  3. Engaging vulnerable clients in fitness programmes
  4. Source materials
  5. Peripatetic teaching
  6. Experience managing volunteers who may have their own specific support needs.
  7. A capacity both to work on your own, in teams and a willingness to reflect upon and develop own practice.
  8. A passion for learning and enjoyment of creativity and innovation.
  9. A willingness to undertake training as required
  10. Commitment to Crisis’ purpose and values including equality and social inclusion

Desirable

  1. Own equipment is desirable. Crisis will provide reimbursements for wear and tear, as well as providing consumable resources where appropriate
