Hours of Work:36.25hours per week (with requirement to work flexibly)

Location:Law and Social Sciences Building, University Park

Reporting to:ACT CEO and Safeguarding Adults at Risk in Sport Steering Group

Purpose of the Role:

ACT’s Safeguarding Adults at Risk in Sport Manager will have responsibility for reviewing and developing advice and support in relation to adults at risk in sport and recreation and for identifying, planning and implementing new initiatives in line with current practice.

Main Responsibilities / % time
1. / To assist sport and recreation organisations to comply with all relevant legislation including the Care Act and Making Safeguarding Personal. / 10%
2. / To advocate for inclusion and equality for adults at risk for their right to participate and engage in sport and recreation. / 5%
3. / To raise awareness of the safeguarding adults at risk agenda within the sport and recreation sector. / 15%
4. / To act as a point of contact for National Governing Bodies (NGB) and County Sport Partnerships (CSP) and to provide advice and information on reporting and raising concerns. / 15%
5. / To support NGB/CSP safeguarding leads to meet their duty of care. / 10%
6. / To raise the profile of sport on the adults at risk agenda by contributing to relevant regional and national consultations/working parties. / 5%
7. / To develop and deliver an adults at risk training strategy for staff and volunteers in sport in line with current legislation and minimum standards. / 15%
8. / To contribute to the objectives of the Safeguarding Adults at Risk in Sport Steering Group. / 10%
9. / To keep updated on all new initiatives and legislation in relation to safeguarding adults at risk and interpret and communicate it to the sector. / 10%
10. / To do all other tasks that each member of the ACT team is expected to contribute to including responding to telephone and e-mail enquiries, offering relevant information and contributing to team meetings and discussions. / 5%

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Education / Relevant first degree / Training/teaching qualification
Relevant professional qualifications
Skills/Training / Expert knowledge of adult safeguarding
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Track record of developing and delivering training
Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise a workload and work to tight deadlines
Ability to collate and apply research and policy to practice initiatives
Ability to work as part of a team and independently
PC literate in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Ability to inform and influence a range of strategic partners and stakeholders / Experience of coordinating and facilitating conferences, training and other events
Experience of creating databases
Knowledge of sporting organisations and structures
Experience / Significant safeguarding adults experience – a minimum of four years
Experience of managing adult safeguarding concerns
Project management / Data analysis
Proven track record of successful funding applications and tenders
Experience of collating and applying research data to practice initiatives
Interest in sports and recreation
Other / Willing and able to travel including overnight stays

Decision Making

i)Taken independently by the role holder;

The postholder will be responsible for prioritising their workload, assessing training requirements across sport and recreation sector using a training needs analysis and providing advice and information to the sector on request.

ii)Taken in collaboration with others;

The postholder will be working across all sport and recreation services in England and will contribute to their consultations in relation to safeguarding adults at risk, developing strategies to ensure that the inclusion agenda in sport reflects safe practice and the national safeguarding agenda.

iii)Referred to the appropriate line manager by the role holder;

S/he will meet regularly with their line manager and quarterly with the project management group and the safeguarding adults in sport steering group to assess progress and discuss future requirements of the sector.
