Construction teams and contractors

Purpose:Overseeing building and construction teams working on all construction sites for Remaking Beamish project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help the project team deliver the vision of the HLF Remaking Beamish project, placing community members and visitors at the centre of the project.
  • Supervise all construction site activities with the support of a Coaching Inn section site supervisor.Act as a site supervisor for all operations with section site supervisory responsibility within the 1950s town and Spain’s Field Farm site.
  • Ensure safe working areas and induction of site personnel and approved visitors
  • Support the Construction Manager to ensure build specification and quality is in line with project plan.
  • Supervise the in-house building team and contractors working on and off site including external deconstruction sites such as Ryton Cinema.
  • Assist the Construction Planner to plan short term works, rolling programmes, monitor progress and identify potential setbacks.
  • Maintaining Health and Safety records (including records of site personnel/visitor site induction) and ensuring all works are undertaken in accordance with the approved method statements and all applicable legislation. Ensuring all Health and Safety recording is up to date.
  • Supervising and instructing construction apprentices
  • Attending daily / weekly meetings to plan day to day works and prioritise works and evaluate plans for each job.
  • Communicate day to day work priorities with site personnel
  • Ensure construction is carried out accurately, following plans and ensure all construction workers are following correct work procedures
  • Minimise the impact of day to day construction activities on the visitor and museum operations.

Team Duties:

  • Work as part of the Remaking Beamish Project Team to ensure the delivery of the Remaking Beamish project, placing visitors at the centre of all activities and planning
  • Contributing labour where appropriate and manageable around supervisory responsibilities
  • Ensuring the site is kept clean, tidy and free of hazards at all times
  • Working with the Construction Manager to monitor supplies of building materials and ensure the supply chain is managed effectively
  • Making sure construction apprentices are appropriately supervised and trained at all times
  • Ensuring efficient and effective management and allocation of incoming materials onto site – work with external suppliers as well as Collections Team Staff to ensure the timely delivery of materials as needed by the building and construction team
  • Comply with all Museum standing orders and management procedures
  • Carry out duties in accordance with Equal Opportunities Policy, Code of Conduct and Health and Safety legislation and regulations.
  • Undertake such duties as are required from time to time as are commensurate with the grade of post.
  • Work flexibly to respond to the needs of the museum and the team.

  • Relevant experience and skills of construction projects ideally within a heritage environment
