Job Title:Regional Fundraiser (Midlands, West and Wales)

Status:Part Time (22.5) – 12 month contract

Office Hours:9.00am-5.30pm (JDRF operates a flexible working hours policy)

Salary:

Holiday:25 days holiday per annum plus statutory holidays

Location:Wales (home base) or Bristol(chose of home or office based)

Reports to:Development Manager (DM)

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is a dynamic and rapidly growing medical research charity that aims to find a cure for type 1 (or juvenile) diabetes through the support of research. Founded in 1986, it is one of the leading funders of diabetes research in the UK.

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

As part of the Midlands, West & Wales Team to assist the DM in identifying and developing new initiatives and work with the MWW team to support both existing and new events.

To take responsibility for the success of the Spin to Cure Diabetes events within Bristol & Cardiff and the Walk to Cure Diabetes; projecting to raise £50,000 from the combined Spins and £50,000 from the Walk to Cure Diabetes in 2012.

To take responsibility for the operational management of any additional events & fundraising initiatives that may arise, as requested by the DM.

To assist the DM in identifying & developing new initiatives – developing business cases for new initiatives. Keeping abreast of the fundraising market, identifying trends and competitor activity and regularly researching prospects to approach for fundraising asks.

Work with the DM in developing and implementing a Third Party/Community Fundraising programme to meet agreed annual fundraising targets and objectives and recognise new opportunities to develop fundraising relationships with local Schools, Places of Worship, Faith Organizations, Golf Clubs, Rotaries, Lions, WI, Scouts, Cubs, Brownies and local Businesses by using a range of tools including face to face meetings, talks, presentations, networking, mailings and telephone.

Maximizing the fundraising contribution of existing supporters by providing a high level of supporter care on an on-going basis and appropriate to their needs and income potential

Securing sponsors for events and other initiatives and identifying and approaching companies with attractive and tailored sponsorship proposals.

Work with the Corporate fundraising team in seeking new corporate business supporters and account managing existing partnerships and implementing corporate social responsibility strategies (CSR) to attract corporate support for the charity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.To project manage the Bristol & Wales Spin to Cure Diabetes events and Bristol & Cardiff Walk to Cure Diabetes – including all supporting events.

2.To work with the DM to develop an event strategy for both the Spin to Cure Diabetes and Walk to Cure Diabetes, including helping to prepare and monitor budgets, aimed at maximising income and publicity from the events for JDRF.

3.To work with the DM, Corporate Partnership Manager to proactively look for opportunities to develop and recruit corporate Spin and running teams.

4.To work with the Communications Team to create and develop a range of materials and products to support these fundraising activities.

5.To support the DM in the development of new and ongoing events.

6.As part of the Midlands, West & Wales Regional Team to work with the team to ensure the region is up to date on administrative and financial processes, including updating DonorFlex.

6.Evaluate and monitor the events & initiatives of other charities to ensure JDRF is aware of current trends, practices and competition.

7.To assist the DM with the review, analysis and future planning for all Midlands, West & Wales regional events

The Regional Fundraiser will undertake other duties consistent with the post and, where necessary, will assist with other areas of work as required by the DM.

Experience / Fundraising experience in either events or 3rd party fundraising
Experience of working to budgets and plans
Experience of organising events
Experience of working as part of a team / Experience of fundraising making appropriate use of volunteers
Project management experience
Skills or
Knowledge / Ability to work independently under own initiative and cooperatively as part of a fundraising team
Good presentation skills
Skilled at developing and maintaining internal and external working relationships at all levels
Ability to prepare detailed reports and proposals and deliver these to external audiences
Ability to manage multiple projects
Excellent attention to detail / Knowledge of fundraising law and practice
Experience of using a recognised database.
Ability to develop ideas and be creative.
Excellent presentation skills.
Ability to set and monitor income and expenditure budgets.
Personality / Outgoing, confident, friendly, positive and professional.
Determined and confident
Education / Degree level or equivalent qualification / Member of Institute of Fundraising
Other and unsociable hours / Flexibility and willingness to work some unsocial hours / Knowledge of type 1 diabetes, diabetes research and JDRF
