Aim
- Coordinate the delivery of high quality coaching and progression activities for homeless and vulnerable adults within a variety of disciplines, including education, training, employment, mental health and housing.
- Ensure all Skylight members have access to appropriate coaching support.
- Coach a case load ofmembers in own specialism.
Dimensions
- Line management of fouremployees initially, with potential for this to increase in line with the Skylight Birmingham 5 year business plan.
- Management of volunteers.
- Delegated budget responsibility relevant to team’s work.
Circumstances
- 35 hours per week.
- Some evening and weekend work will be required and time off in lieu will be given in accordance with Crisis TOIL policy.
- Willing and able to travel across Birmingham, West Midlands and the UK for training and meetings.
- The role involves working with vulnerable adults and young people and so a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau is required.
Salary

Principal accountabilities
Project and resource management
- Develop a programme of progression pathways and opportunities for Skylight members through coaching, support and IAG, ensuringthat this programmeis high quality and conforms to Matrix standards.
- Ensure that all client facing staff understand and are able to use the agreed coaching methodology for one to one work with members, so all Skylight members have access to appropriate coaching support. This also includes volunteering & mental health.
- Performance manage and motivate staff to achieve all goals and targets as laid out in the business plan and to meet any funding requirements.
- Promote and deliver the member involvement strategy throughout Skylight and ensure opportunities are made for members to give feedback and contribute to the effective running of Skylight services.
- Contribute to the effective and efficient management of the Skylight budget by monitoring progression team expenditure; this may include some delegated budget responsibility.
- Contribute to bid writing, programme planning and target setting as required by the Director of Skylight.
- Manage a caseload of up to 25 members per annum providing coaching, support and IAG.
Skylight development
- Build relationships with external agencies such as businesses and providers of adult education toestablishprogression pathways for members.
- Promote Skylight and the benefits of engagement, learning and progression to a variety of audiences.
- Identify opportunities for income generation and contribute to the continuing development of Skylight Birmingham.
- Liaise with partner organisations as necessary including meetings with other professionals concerning members.
Quality assurance
- Encourage staff to fully use the Crisis Client Database and reporting system and ensure the accurate reporting and measurement of outcomes.
- Effectively monitor performance to meet internal and external targets, reporting on any concerns and undertaking action to address under-performance in consultation with the Skylight Director.
- Ensure contracts, service level agreements and programme targets are appropriately monitored, evaluated and successfully delivered.
- Ensuresystems and practice meet Crisis and Matrix requirements.
- Ensure web pages and relevant literature is of a high standard, working closely with the Crisis Communications team.
General
- To develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ vision and the needs and circumstances of homeless people.
- To comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- To carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job.

Person Specification
Essential
- Experience of delivering or managing high quality information, advice and guidance (ideally to matrix standards).An IAG qualification or willingness to work towards one is expected.
- Experience of working with socially excluded and/or vulnerable people to bring about positive change.
3.Experience of managing successful relationships with external agencies and relevant service providers.
- Demonstrable experience of managing and developing staff.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- An ability to motivate and generate enthusiasm for learning, employment and training as pathways towards personal fulfillment and social inclusion in staff, members and volunteers.
- Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage a high volume workload and manage conflicting priorities.
- Ability touse own initiative with a proactive approach todecision making.
- Understanding of the barriers faced by many homeless people in accessing education, training and employment and knowledge of possible progression pathways.
- An understanding of the management of volunteers and the positive impact volunteering can have for members as well as the important role it can play in an organisation.
- An understanding of how mental health impacts on the lives of homeless people and how this can be best supported.
- Proficient in the use Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, & Outlook), databases and the internet. Experience of managing web content is desirable.
