Job Title:Membership Support Officer

Salary:£24-26k (dependent on experience)

Fixed term contract until 31stMarch 2012

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

The National Council for Palliative Care

The National Council for Palliative Care (NCPC) is the umbrella charity for all those involved in palliative, end of life and hospice care in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We believe that everyone approaching the end of life has the right to the highest quality care and support, wherever they live, and whatever their condition. We work with government, health and social care staff and people with personal experience to improve end of life care for all.

NCPC leads the Dying Matters coalition which aims to change public attitudes and behaviours around dying, death and bereavement.

Role Summary

Supported by the Director of Public Engagement and working closely with the Stakeholder Relations Manager, the postholder will be responsible for supporting current and new NCPC subscribers and Dying Matters supporters.

The Membership Support Officer, working with the HQ team and Support Manager,will also play a key rolein maintaining an up-to-date, comprehensive and fit-for-purpose database which will inform and enable further efficiencies across the organisation.

Main Role and Priority Responsibilities

  • To be the first point of contact for new Dying Matters supporters and NCPC subscriptions queries
  • Supporting the 1200 NCPC subscribers and over 15,000 Dying Matters supporters, responding promptly to queries and requests
  • To process applications in an efficient and timely manner, producing invoices and chasing up payments where necessary
  • To maintain an up-to-date and complete database, producing regular statistics and reports on request
  • Responding to queries and posting out materials
  • Working with the Stakeholder Relations Manager to cover administrative duties relating to stakeholder relations, e.g. mail-outs etc
  • Attending NCPC and Dying Matters conferences and events where appropriate
  • Attending external conferences and events to promote and advertise NCPC and Dying Matters from our exhibition stand, answering queries and recruiting subscribers, selling publications and distributing information.
  • Supporting the communications team with administrative duties relating to Dying Matters and NCPC
  • Linking with the Policy and Parliamentary Affairs Team to understand forthcoming resources and how they will benefit subscribers

General:

  • Work within the policies and procedures of NCPC
  • NCPC has a flexible approach to working arrangements. The head office is basedin central London, but this can be combined with working from other locations in a planned way
  • Post holder must be willing to travel throughout the country as and when required
  • This role isfull-time, initially with a fixed term contract to 31stMarch 2012,with a two month probationary period.

  • Previous experience of working in a membership or stakeholder support role
