Job Title: Medical Billing and Coding Clerk

Reports To: Program Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Ensure Achievement Academy is paid for therapies rendered; responsible for the accurate flow of medical information between students, therapists and third-party payers;reconcile billings (A/P) with receivables (A/R) within appropriate time period; provide monthly AP/AR reports to management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1)Responsible for all components of the billing process for Medicaid, Managed Medical Assistance (MMA), private insurance and Part C.

2)Verify medical benefits and eligibility and obtain doctor authorization for therapies.

3)Prepare and maintain medical records for all students/clients including evaluations, prescriptions, medical documentation, etc.

4)Ensure accuracy of medical information from students, therapists and third-party payers.

5)Prepare outgoing invoices via electronic means or surface mail.

6)Reconcile billings with payments received in timely manner

7)Maintain accurate list of licensing and certification deadlines for Therapists.

8)Provide monthly reports to management.

9)Ensure that all records are audit and code compliant and maintain all needed documentation.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Schedule:

Fulltime (35 hours per week)

Required Skills:

1). Knowledge of medical coding and billing.

Education/Experience:

Minimum of a High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required, associate or bachelor’s degree in health information technology or similar areaa plus; three to four years related experiencea plus.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required; Medical Coding/Billing software a plus.

Certificates and Licenses:

No certifications required. Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) a plus.
