Materials Manager – Recruitment brief

Job title: Materials Manager

Responsible to: Operations Director

Salary:£45-55k

Rayner is building a brand new flagship manufacturing facility and headquarters in Worthing, due for completion in late 2015, and we are now looking for a Materials Manager to join our team.

Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be managing all aspects of materials flow and maintaining control, quality and accuracy over all goods inventories, including all transactions, procurement, planning, scheduling, cost, warehouse, receiving and shipping. You’ll also be managing purchasing and inventory processes and this role will be critical to developing and managing all supplier relationships.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage materials through the supply chain from end to end
  • Monitor usage and min/max levels to assist with purchasing decisions; manage the cycle counting of stock ensuring that the Company is maintaining acceptable levels of stock to enable sales targets to be achieved.
  • Identify and manage suppliers, negotiate and agree contracts and monitor progress, monitoring the quality of service provided
  • Carry out regular analysis of customer demand, sales forecasts and historical material usage to develop and execute made- to-order and forecasting plans
  • Establish and supervise production scheduling activities by monitoring material inventories, tracking progress of production and reviewing factors that affect schedules
  • Responsible for accuracy of inventory counts by implementing and managing, in conjunction with Finance, an inventory control system
  • Maintain and provide current understanding of industry best practices and technology trends.
  • Identify tools, processes and metrics to optimize supplier value
  • Establish effective operating policies, lean initiatives and processes
  • Develop and implement efficiency projects and new proposals
  • Maintain records of the goods, materials, supplies and services received

Skills and Experience:

  • Manufacturing background; experience in Medical Devices/Ophthalmology and of GMP
  • Previous experience in materials management/purchasing role
  • Experience in management of materials and sourcing within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in Lean six sigma, or other similar environments.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Experience working with/implementing Lean initiatives and processes
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience of purchasing strategies and inventory management
  • Experience dealing with suppliers and vendors
  • Good knowledge of ERP/MRP/Purchase order systems and related software
  • Degree in administration, logistics, material management, supply chain or similar
  • Professional qualifications/memberships e.g. CIPS, APICS etc
