Job Title:Information Technology Specialist

Reports to:Director of Information Technology

Location:Elizabeth Finn Care Head Office, Hammersmith

Purpose of the Role:To manage and maintain the computing and information technology services, network communications, management information services and internal telephony of Elizabeth Finn Care (EFC or ‘the Charity’) and its subsidiary Elizabeth Finn Homes Limited (EFHL). To participate in the design of, and project manage the implementation of, information technology related programmes of change and new initiatives.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Ensure the Charity’s technology and telephony systems are maintained, supported and managed to meet operational requirements. Provide similar services to EFHL.

Provide support and implement and manage the IT systems and procedures that support end users.

Participate in information technology services planning and development, to ensure the technology capabilities are responsive to the needs of both EFC’s, and EFHL’s objectives.

Project manage the implementation of new systems, applications and manage any changes to existing computer systems. Be responsible for the related financial / budgetary aspects of projects.

Ensure the security of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment.

Contribute to the developmentand take responsibility for on-going management and monitoring, of all system and disaster recovery procedures.

Deputise for the Director of Information Technology when necessary, managing the overall information services and telephony provision and advising the Chief Executive as required.

Maintain on-going relationships with the organisation’s technology suppliers and vendors.
Participate in the establishment and refinement of operating policies and procedures for information technology and telecommunications for EFC and EFHL.
Contribute to formal IT audit and review.

On an on-going basis, evaluate the overall operations of computing and information technology functions and recommend enhancements to the Director of Information Technology.

Identify emerging information technologies and determine the potential value for EFC and EFHL. Make recommendations to the Director of Information Technology.

Serve on committees, planning groups and support EFC and EFHL departments on matters related to information technology and information management. Produce summary reports for these as required.

Train, supervise, and evaluate EFC and EFHL departmental staff as required.

Communicate effectively with other members of the IT team, other EFC and EFHL staff, and where necessary externally.

Work in a flexible and organised manner, meeting objectives and deadlines.

Work independently and to consult when appropriate.

Travel to EFHL and EFC branch site locations as required. Provide on-call cover as required (usually via remote access but with occasional travel possible).

Undertake any other duties that may be required which are consistent with the nature and grade of the post.

These are the normal duties, which the Charity requires from the position. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and all employees will be required from time to time to perform other duties as may be required by the Charity for the efficient running of the charity. This Job Description is non-contractual. It will be reviewed from time to time and may be subject to change.The post holder will be expected to ensure that their work complies with contractual terms and conditions, the Charity’s policies and procedures and key legislation, such as data protection and charity law.

Person Specification

Education:

Necessary:Undergraduate degree in technology, science or engineering discipline or equivalent experience

Desirable:Professional qualifications (e.g. MBCS, CITP) and/or higher degree

Skills:

Necessary:Strong analysis and problem solving skills

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

Good communication and people skills; Able to interact with users, managers and non-IT staff with tact and diplomacy

Able to build relationships both internally and externally

Ability to keep good and accurate records of work

Strong presentation, writing and editing skills to both technical and non-technical audiences

Able to acquire new knowledge and keep up to date in all relevant areas

Can work in a flexible and organised manner, meeting objectives and deadlines

Knowledge:

Necessary:Good general knowledge of a variety of computer and associated hardware

Good understanding of legal obligations including FOI and DPA

Understanding of IP telephony and associated technologies (QoS, VLAN tagging etc.)

Experience:

Specialist:At least 5 years experience in a second/third level IT support/technical role or equivalent

Proven ability to support and advise end users on a wide range of technology related issues

In depth experience of implementing and maintaining Microsoft Exchange 2010

Supporting database applications and Microsoft Office and associated application packages

Demonstrable project management experience and management of related budgets

Experience of networking in a multi-site environment, including switching, routing, IPsecVPNs and LAN and WAN operations

In depth knowledge and experience of implementing and maintaining Microsoft based server infrastructures, including Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Active Directory, Terminal Services and Roaming Profiles, File and Print services SQL Server 2005 and 2008

Experience of building and maintaining a virtualised server environment (preferably using Microsoft Hyper V 2012)
