Wild Ennerdale Volunteer

Role Purpose / The purpose of the role of Wild Ennerdale volunteer is to help the Wild Ennerdale Partnership improve the Ennerdale valley for the benefit of people and nature through mostly practical projects and activities.
Specific Tasks / Mostly nature conservation and recreation related tasks for example path maintenance, bridge building and repairs, visitor surveys, helping with events, tree planting, drystone walling, photo surveying, fence construction and removal and maintaining archaeological features.
Skills and Qualities Needed / Volunteers will come from a wide range of backgrounds and will have many different qualities and skills.
Essential qualities for this role are: enthusiasm for the outdoor environment, willingness to learn, ability to work as part of a team, open discussive approach, reliable, happy working outdoors in a range of weather and landscapes.
Commitment / As a volunteer this is very much up to you but we feel you will get the most out of your volunteering if you can give at least one day, 6 to 7 hours, a month.
Our volunteers meet formally every third Tuesday of the month but there s usually volunteering opportunities most Tuesdays and other days in the week. If you sign up to our volunteering Newsletter by email we will keep you in touch.
Support and Training / Most of the activities you will be involved in need little training to master and this is usually offered onsite via other experienced volunteers or partnership staff.
Occasionally you may be asked to be involved in more formal training which we would aim to arrange locally in West Cumbria.
If you feel you do not understand how to do the task you have been asked to complete please ask your volunteering co-ordinator for help.

Location of volunteering / Generally the Ennerdale Valley and areas in and around Ennerdale Bridge but may involve other locations such as The Forestry Commission’s office at Peil Wyke and National Trust’s office at Bowe Barn in Borrowdale.
